White Stripes thinking rock and fame and infamy is satan and therefore wanting to get out of... rock?

*) album title of rather non-all-guitars-blazing sounding new 5th White Stripes album - Get Behind Me Satan album

Thanks for mentioning it's the White Stripes, I didn't know that.

I like the White Stripes. I'm a jackass, and have nothing to prove, so I just like Meg's dumbass drumming and Jack's rididulous attempts to make what he's singing in the moment really important and rocking, so I appreciate the effort. I saw them live and they seemed honest and put on a good show, and Jack is a good songwriter so no complaints.

Somedays, like now, when it's a beautiful Saturday morning, and I'm listening to "My Doorbell" on a loop, I get this mad idea that Meg might be the best drummer in the World.

Listening to those guys on Fresh Air and seeing them live, I can't tell whether Meg is pissed off all the time of grateful.

Meg is making drummers visible again. John Bonham would be proud. Buddy Rich would rag on her not playing in time.

perhaps her cutesiness is making her visible, cuz it sure as hell ain't her drumming.

No No, you've got it all wrong once again. It's her imprecision around a drum kit that exactly is making her drumming more noticeable. Don't knock her, the gal is trying her best.

Lovable yet technically limited drummer smackdown:

MEG WHITE

See, this is the kind of patronizing crap SFJ addressed very well in his New Yorker review: "she is a lousy drummer, and not to mention this would be sexist" (paraphrase)

she is shit. i like her but sometimes she fails to come up with any different pattern, or rhythm, its all that same plodding, mechanical bashing. which is fine for some songs but on others just sounds like a fucking metronome, like shes a robot. plus, in some songs when she varies the pattern for a chorus or whatever, its usually just that flailing, bashing the ride cymbal, crash bang wallop thing she does. boring. distinctive style is one thing, and im all for it, but distinctively limited is not to be encouraged!
