And I was surprised to find they were really, really, good. A lot of energy, the frontman's born to be a star, and a great rhythm section. His voice was really strong too. They played to a sold-out crowd at Tonic on the Lower East Side, got a rapturous response...

They're no Art Brut.

They should open for Linkin Park and cover "Down in the Park" by Numan and MTV/Vice can run a "Down on the Park" contest.

And a BIIIIIIIIIIIIG concert in Macarthur Park and then another one in Central Park. Then they can sing "Kum Ba Yah" and the end of it and there'll be world peace.

Taking Sides: "Saturday in the Park" by Chicago VS. "Down in the Park" by Gary Numan

Dude, you have a new movie out, you should concentrate on publicizing that.

two months pass...
I saw Maximo Park in Los Angeles tonight, and they were weak. A lot of jumping around, the frontman tries too hard, and the keymaster is emo as fuck.

They played to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour and Gram Rabbit's 45-minute warm-up set made them seem like an afterthought.

"Apply Some Pressure" was fine (the not-so-good-looking feller playing bass at the back of the stage did shine) until The Knack called and demanded "My Sharona" back.
