There's also a version, unheard by me, by Laurie Freelove (formerly of Two Nice Girls)...and Cul De Sac also cover it on ECIM (unfortunately, their version has me scrambling for the remote.)

one month passes...
I found a nice echoey place to sing, and I wanted to sing Song to the Siren there, a la Liz Fraser. However, I'm having lyrics problems and am wondering if anyone has any answers or theories.

Most non-TMC versions have the line "Were you hare when I was fox." However, the online lyrics for the This Mortal Coil version always say "Were you here when I was full sail." But I'm pretty sure Liz sings neither fox nor full sail.

So, "were you ___ when I was ___"? Any clues?

Oh god, it's one of those things where I would never want to know what the real lyrics were.

I just listened to Plant's this past Tuesday. Gotta admit, it's pretty damn good. that Porl Thompson guitar break really makes it.

Based on nothing but my probably damaged hearing, it's:

"Were you here when I was flotsam?"

Makes sense in context, plus it fits her accent. Even if I were to be proved wrong, if Liz Fraser herself paid a personal visit to my home to tell me otherwise, I'd still insist these were the right words.
