anthony easton (anthony), Sunday, 12 June 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The "care-o-meter" has completely made my day. Cheers, Dom!!!!!!

Except the millions of floyd fans do care and there will be plenty of them sending texts now to win tickets for Live 8 (and failing haha).

I like reunions and find this to be quite awesome.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 12 June 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

yeah this is kind of exciting

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 12 June 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

I would assume people are getting 15-20 minute sets? So what will Floyd play? I'm guessing:

Money
Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)
Comfortably Numb

It would be so nice [bwaaahaa] to have them just do 'Echoes' instead.

I'm assuming this will be as bland as any other Floyd performances [or LPs] post-72, but really all of the other bands can pack up and go home. A Waters-led Floyd at Live 8 is the only act the entire concert needs to be successful. They can cancel the bands at other venues as well and just have a big screen broadcasting the Floyd segment. That is how phenomenal this particular reunion is.

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Sunday, 12 June 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

they won't do money and comfortably numb since Gilmore sings both of those adn there's no point in having waters there

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 12 June 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

At least now there's an interesting headline. Hard to get worked up about another benefit appearance by Paul McCartney and Elton John.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Sunday, 12 June 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

roger waters left pink floyd?

it would be awesome if they did a really campy discofied version of 'comfortably numb' proggy version of 'take your mama'.

n_RQ, Sunday, 12 June 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

they won't do money and comfortably numb since Gilmore sings both of those adn there's no point in having waters there

Well, they both sang on "Comfortably Numb".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 12 June 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

I bet $25 they will play "On the Turning Away."

PB, Sunday, 12 June 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

I like the idea of them turning up, doing the most aggro version of "One of These Days" ever, then leaving. (If an encore is demanded, they come back out and do "St. Tropez.")

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 June 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

That the "care-o-meter" has a demarcation for 'pi' kills me.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 12 June 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

they should just play all the non-song interstitial/sound fx bits from The Wall and step off stage.

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Sunday, 12 June 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Actually stepping onto the stage would be a sell out, man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 June 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

i do hope Syd comes out, does "Efferverscing Elephant" for a minute on guitar, with the rest of Pink Floyd just clapping along, no instruments, then leave. And I bet you people will be "AW man, it may have been a minute and a half but it was the BEST MINUTE AND A HALF OF LIVE MUSIC EVER, MAN!"

donut e-goon (donut), Sunday, 12 June 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

(as in "I bet you THAT people"... not "I bet that YOU people", etc etc)

donut e-goon (donut), Sunday, 12 June 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

They were playing Syd in Asda yesterday. I think he was on a compilation of some sort, but it was pretty surreal there for a moment.

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Sunday, 12 June 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

I bet they'll do "Astronomy Domine". And charge everybody for it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 12 June 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

"Flicker flicker flack...PAY!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 June 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I've often wondered if yr average classic rock radio-listenin' PF fan even knows (or cares) aboot Roger Waters and his importance to the band for the songs they like, or they just love them some Floyd. It's not like the two albums he's not on and the tours they did without him tanked.

That said, I'd like them to do "The Tide is Turning (After Live Aid)" and then have Waters brain Gilmour with his bass, just to prove he hasn't gone soft.

Vic Funk, Sunday, 12 June 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

I hope they just do Dogs

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 12 June 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

Thank god you capitalized that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 June 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

Wow, a whole lot of people on ILM know a whole lot of nothing about Pink Floyd...

Reggie, Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

What's that supposed to mean?

J (Jay), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Pink Floyd rocks!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

I love Floyd. I wish they'd play Echoes but it'll never happen. I'm thinking Comfortably Numb, Another Brick II, maybe Brain Damage/Eclipse. Definitely Money. Unfortunately.

Not Now John would be a hoot.

shookout (shookout), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

interstellar overdrive, dudes

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

it would be amazing if they performed sans backup singers, horn section and xtra players. just the 5 og's jammin echos would be legendary. but im sure they're guna go all out pmpous ass 80s reganomics style.

charleston charge (chaki), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

hstencil's got it.

at full volume.

all gospel nack-up singers to be shot on site.

chris andrews (fraew), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

whoops; 'back-up'

chris andrews (fraew), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

the back up singers sound great on Dark Side of the Moon

shookout (shookout), Sunday, 12 June 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

i never thought so.

God Echoes is great, isn't it? I have it on now - stadium ambient, now there's a genre that never caught on. Wright's keybds on the 'funk' passage are brilliant, and Rog and Nick even hit a pretty mean groove there. Whew!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Good news for "Live 8", which is good news for Africa, I guess.
Hopefully it will make them talk and make them able to get over their childish differences.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

JUGBAND BLUES OH YEAH

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 13 June 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

It would be even better if Waters joined the Scissor Sisters and spent the whole of his set giving Gilmour et al the finger.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 13 June 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

In related news, Richard Gere will also join Pink Floyd:

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 13 June 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Sort of tangential, but I don't think Waters or Gilmore sang "Money" on the record. It was some guy just pulled in for the session, according to the "Saucerful of Secrets" bio.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Monday, 13 June 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

that's weird, it sure sounds like gilmore. but ray harper sounds like gilmore on Have a Cigar too. something about being around those guys must be contagious.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 13 June 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Nah, Gilmour sang on Money, you might be thinking of Roy Harper who sang on 'Have A Cigar' from Wish You Were Here.

mzu1, Monday, 13 June 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

x-post

mzu1, Monday, 13 June 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

THAT'S the song that they better play!

And if they do anything from The Wall, I hope that some stagehands drag Sir Bob out onto the stage and shave him.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 13 June 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

I have this David Gilmour live DVD(it was 5 bucks, ok?) which I bought because he covers 2 Syd songs and performs Comfortably Numb with the "hello...is there anybody in there?" part being performed by Robert Wyatt. He plays it again and Sir Bob comes out and does the intro, so my money is absolutely on Floyd ending with Comfortably Numb feat. Bob Geldof doing the intro.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 13 June 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

Maybe they can bring Van Morrison out during "Comfortably Numb" and shave him instead!

Holy shit.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Monday, 13 June 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm... it probably was "Have A Cigar," I haven't read the bio in years. Well played, ILMers.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Monday, 13 June 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Hats off, even...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Monday, 13 June 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Will Roger Barrett join them as well?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 13 June 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

What's even more surprising than Waters showing up is that the Pink Floyd reunion is the opening band for Mariah Carey.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 13 June 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

I think Roger Barrett will also be performing, yes.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 13 June 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

THIS JUST IN: ROGER "SYD" BARRETT TO PERFORM SONGS BY ART-ROCK TITANS, YES!
