what is your ideal number of ppl in a band - does yr record collection have a tendency towards say classic 4piece or synth duo - if you're in a band what number doesn't work - the more the merrier or more aggro ?

[rfi-what was that boss thread masonik8 did on dual-axis + diktatorz ?]

The more people, the less aggro. It's like a party, the less people are there, the more aggrieved the inevitably 'left-out' person is going to feel, except in a band, you have more of an interest in making them feel welcome so if power axes inevitably develop it's harder to halt the inevitable fissures. OTOH, getting everybody to show up at the same place and time is 90% of the struggle, so it's hard to say.

Like DQ this is from the 'being in a band' perspective. As few as possible to get done what you need to do is what you want. Ideal band member turns up on time, does as is told and occasionally has brilliant ideas which fit in with your own. One (other than yourself) member is allowed to 'share' power and 'bounce ideas around' with you. The others must be patient while this is happening as it is for their own good.

Between 2 and 4 members is ideal. 5 at a push. One is no good as solo artists are all crap and in need of self editing.

The more people, the less aggro.

By that logic, the So Solid Crew are a bunch of hippies.

5 is the max if you are gonna have to play shows at crappy bars with tiny stages///

Three is best. Add additional members only if one of the three is lacking something vital, and only if you cannot find a direct replacement for the lacking band member.

So solid aren't a band, they're a cru.

"One is no good as solo artists are all crap and in need of self editing."

Counter-example: Bruce Springsteen, Nebraska.
