serious answer: Graeme Stewart has been in the studio with them a lot, but I don't know if he's producing or just engineering. He's produced a few of their b-sides.

Right on Mr. Cotten. A Phil Elvrum/Radiohead production would be rather spectacular. Does anyone know what direction they are going with this, hints in interviews or whatever?

Probably read this bit already, but nme.com reports Thom saying "it's going well. It's a bit like "Kid A" - we're going through a period of change. But that's good. We'll get there"

Captain Entropy (Captain Entropy), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to see someone who doesn't fit into the usual Radiohead M.O producing, like Albini, Timbaland or Xenomania. Though I suppose Timbaland would be quite comfortable working with them.

They should work with Max Martin.

La Monte (La Monte), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

per Christgau's request, their next album will be produced by Konono Nr 1. god how awesome would that be.

Lukas (lukas), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 03:51 (twenty years ago)

Bill Ezrin!

Working with Bob Ezrin might have given interesting results. It often does. Excellent producer that still hasn't lost the touch.

two months pass...
Thom Yorke blogs.

He types like a 10-year-old. A 10-year-old boy who's also a robot. Thom Yorke = Haley Joel Osment in AI.

But I like that the blog, like most other things with Radiohead, starts off with him feeling claustrophobic.

Roz (Roz), Thursday, 18 August 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

What a fucking gobshite. Why do I still like them? Damn you Radiohead, get that fuckwit away from that blog. Would he ever grow up? Christ, I'm angrier with myself for even caring!

It should be Danger Mouse little zeitgeist whore that he is...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 19 August 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

is it a spoof? seriously, it's like ye olde nme thrill section. i can't believe he's really like that.

N_RQ, Friday, 19 August 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

What proof is there that that is his blog?

This development gives me the idea for a "Pretend blogging has been going on since 1955 and post a famous artist's blog" thread. >_>

Cunga (Cunga), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

Check out my fierce misunderstanding and capitalization and spacing! You think you understand what I'm trying to say? Do you really? We are all so special!"

mike h. (mike h.), Friday, 19 August 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

I think the weird/oblique typing/writing (because he handwrites somewhat like that too) is a defense mechanism. A schtick he has developed to obscure his real thoughts/personality. Just a theory. I don't think he really wants people to get a very clear idea of what he's thinking though, not to be arty or self-consciously weird, but just because he fears the idea of people having a clear window into his thoughts.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Friday, 19 August 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Or maybe it's his kid doing the typing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 August 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

YORKE DISSES MUSIC INDUSTRY

Thom Yorke has had a go at music industry types in interview in this week's NME, calling them "fucking retards". The Radiohead frontman told the magazine: Talking of the rise of Arctic Monkeys the singer said: "A good thing for new music would be more of the mainstream loosening up a bit and letting stuff through. Radio 1 won't play anything fucking decent. You need to sort the radio out. The fact that poor Arctic Monkeys are getting so much attention is purely based on the fact that the mainstream music business is such a bunch of fucking retards as far as I'm concerned."

and on the Radiohead blog:

like anybody gives a rats arse:)

is it a quiet week for the NME by any chance?

SHOCK HORROR not much to say UMM SHOCK horror.

Roz (Roz), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:16 (twenty years ago)

If anybody could scan the article, I'd be appreciative.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Melissa, are you excited about that comp that's coming out with downbeat/jazz dudes doing Radiohead tunes? 'Cause I kinda am.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:14 (twenty years ago)

I've heard it. Aside from the Matthew Herbert/Mara Carlyle, it's *awful*. And I had such high hopes.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh well. I like the ?uestlove joint, but because of the hot beats, not because it's a good version of the tune. What about the Bad Plus track?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:24 (twenty years ago)

It's pretty pointless.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:31 (twenty years ago)

Melissa, have you heard this band from Sweden: Khoma

They do have Radiohead inspirations, without being a clone

check the ecard

http://www.khoma.net/thesecondwave/

when the multimedia loads, click audio menu for 3 tracks to listen to

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Heh, DJ, for future reference, that's not my kind of thing at all.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Melissa. I hope I like it more than you do just because I dig Bad Plus, rjd2, Cinematic, etc. on their own.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Still wouldn't mind a scan of the NME interview, people.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I think the tribute album is fucking great. Apparently everyone else thinks it's terrible, and I can live with that.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Radiohead Cover Album: What Are They Thinking?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 03:40 (twenty years ago)

Heheh, I think that was the first ILM thread I ever read, back in the day.

I want to like the tribute album - haven't heard it yet, but just knowing that Matthew Herbert is on it makes me very happy.

Lotta Continua (Damian), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Back in the day last year?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 12:52 (twenty years ago)

Nah, 2000. What do you like on the tribute album?

Lotta Continua (Damian), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Oh sorry, I thought you said this thread.

The Herbert track is great and I love the samba version of Everything in its Right Place. 'Just' is pretty fun, great horns.

Some of the other tracks aren't mindblowing or anything but they bring a smile to my face, like ?uestlove doing his dn'b thing on Morning Bell, or Chris Dave (drummer I've been following from way back) jamming on National Anthem, or Bilal's smoooooothe version of High & Dry.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 13:20 (twenty years ago)

it's being produced by mark spike stent, in case anyone was actually wondering.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

the guy who did ... that one Beta Band record? Hot Shots II?

Renard (Renard), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

C-Swing is the name you are thinking of.

Lotta Continua (Damian), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Dunno about the Beta Band but I do know he mixed all of the Spice Girls' singles! And produced a couple of Bjork albums.

xpost

Roz (Roz), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 15:55 (twenty years ago)

the Beta Band guy is a different guy, I had em mixed up
