I don't know if this has been done, if yes I apologise in advance. The two books coming to my mind are:

- Greil Marcus on "Like A Rolling Stone"
- Dave Marsh on "Louie Louie"

Any others?

- Geir Hongro on "Snooker Loopy"

"Heroes" by Ray Loriga. Luckily for him, the word "heroes" means exactly the same in spanish and in english.

I'm having trouble thinking of other songs that *could* have an entire book written about them. "Yesterday"? "American Pie"? "The Star-Spangled Banner"? "Reach Out, I'll Be There"? "Satisfaction"?

Cecil Brown's "Stagolee Shot Billy," if the Stagolee tradition is counted as a single song. Actually, I bet there are other books that deal with a single folk song...John Henry or Frankie and Johnnie, say. Anybody know?

There's one on "Yankee Doodle Dandy."

Er, I mean "Yankee Doodle." No dandy.

Didn't Sir George Martin write a book about the making of 'A Day in the Life'? He at least wrote a fairly sizable essay on it.

"we didn't start the fire" would be like a history textbook.

is sadly not about the Pulp song.

apparently, Camus' "L'Etranger" is about a Cure song...

There are biographies on Francis Scott Key, which are essentially books about "The Star Spangled Banner."

billstevejim (billstevejim), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

There really should be a book about "Strange Fruit," I just realized.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

Ray Coleman wrote a book about Yesterday.

I am fairly sure there are a couple of books on "Strange Fruit" already - one's about the song itself, the other is also about Billie Holiday.

xpost.

I know this is kinda different, but books named after songs are quite cool in their own right.
