Whoopsie!
> 1: LOOK AWAY - CHICAGO> WTF?
"Look Away" held the #1 slot for four weeks, which was enough to be #1 for the year in a year of rapid chart turnover.
FWIW, I far prefer the 1989 set to the 1993 one; I fell out of touch with Top 40 radio while I was in college. But there's no way that 1993 countdown culls from Billboard chart data: "I Will Always Love You" was #1 for 14 weeks, and even though "Two Princes" got massive airplay, it couldn't have done THAT well -- could it?

Billboard compiled those lists based on airplay and single sales. Those lists pretty much jibe with what I remember were the inescapable hits.

I liked this
9: BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY/FREEBIRD MEDLEY - WILL TO POWER
and this
7: ALL THAT SHE WANTS - ACE OF BASE
eek.
And I still do, but I'd never admit to it in public.

Meanwhile, "Informer" was #1 for SEVEN weeks -- only "I Will Always Love You," "Dreamlover," "I Can't Help Falling in Love," and "That's the Way Love Goes" were at the top for as long or longer -- but scrapes in on this list at #73? Weird.

Also - Strongo hates ballads! And "DREAMLOVER"!!! You probably hate Amy Grant, too! LAME!

Song I'd like to hear again, haven't heard since it was on the charts: Bobby Brown, "On Our Own"
Song I've never even heard of: Lisa Keith, "Better Than You"
Favorites: "Hey Jealousy," "Morning Papers," "Another Sad Love Song"
Song that most defined each year for me: "If You Don't Know Me By Now," "Sleeping Satellite"

The 1993 list reminds me of nothing. So no opinion really. It does seem to have more generic balladry, which is a turn-off. The 1989 list looks more dance-y and glam-y.

About a year ago.. I DID hear Casey doing one of his last AT40 broadcasts and I gotta say it was a hoot hearing him talking about 50 Cent and Missy Elliot.. then stepping into the Peter Cetara track as the inevitable long distance dedication.
