New Kids

That One Guy (That One Guy), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

Good lord, New Kids by a mile. One of the best fake rock-therefore-better than real rock songs ever. Ridiculous/glorious. Limp are *supposed* to be macho badasses, therefore them talking about being macho badasses is pointless, and the song is a great stanky fart.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 00:34 (twenty years ago)

if they had all 'learned' their instruments and let Donnie "Homeboy" Wahlberg sing lead I could imagine them sounding and looking like Limp Bizkit eight years after Hangin' Tough.

Donnie! Jordan! Jonathan! Danny! and little Joey sittin' down.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't mind if both of these songs vanished forever in a blaze on anthrax poisoning.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

you don't like hip-hop, Dan?

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

DAN SMASH

The Hulk of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

"Rollin'" is so hugely idiotic on so many levels that I believe I'd actually opt for the NKOTB track here....but not before slicing off my ears with a rusty steak knife and eating them whole.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

I thought ILM liked "Rollin".

Guy Incognito (Guy Incognito), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 03:14 (twenty years ago)

bizkit

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

Wes Borland's guitar on Rollin' is kind of Frippy and weird.

Which means it has one cool thing over the zero cool things in "Hangin' Tough."

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

new kids. i heard this blasting out of a pimped out Eclipse some time ago and it was a delightful experience.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

Somewhere in verdant, rural England, Robert Fripp just felt a sharp pain in his pancreas.

he then fired a band member

Seriously? Should there be any question about this? The Bizkit's first name says it all...Limp. NKOTB, not to be confused with TAFKAP, TSOL, or HTFDYCUWTT (How the fuck did you come up with this thread?), were a BOY band, and this was their "We're from the tough streets of Bahston" record. So cheese, so middle school, so good...the synth beats, the oh-oh-oh-OH-oh...Hangin' TOUGH! Dude...so great. I actually bought this cassette single, and then realized two things: a) I had just paid money for an NKOTB single and b) cassette singles are WAY overpriced.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

we used to listen to "hangin tough" (along with other NKOTB tunes) in second grade gym class, when we were playing with parachutes. i really enjoyed that. so, for the memories, "hangin' tough" gets my vote.

"rollin'" just gives me a headache thinking about it.

rollin'

Neil Peart (listerine), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Hangin' Tough has the benefit of nostalgia.

Donnie Wahlberg is also a very good actor, which has nothing to do with anything on this thread.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

Hangin' Tough by several kilometers.

Koens (Koens), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

yall must love the beatles!

hangin tough plods

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Both are great. But Rollin' makes me feel like dancing around more than the other.
However this thread reminds me of the Behind the Music episode about New Edition I saw last week. Michael Bivins has a number of amusing sound bites, the best one involves him and the rest of N.E. watching tv and seeing (their white boy knock offs) NKOTB for the 1st time. Bivins begins to sing the chorus of Hanging Tough, emphasizing its insipidness and adds "and we were all like 'what the fuck?'"

theodore fogelsanger (herbert hebert), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Rollin' had a hard-as-nails Miami Electro Bass remix done by Jackal & Hyde (Dynamix II related group).

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

"Rollin'" is fun cuz you can yell "BLUNTZ" after Fred does the "hook".

"Hangin' Tough" though had that awesome synchronized one-arm wave thing going for it, plus that "OOOOH OH OOOOH AH OOH" bit is actually a pretty classic break.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Of these two choices, definitely "Rollin'". WTF? (But, dude, Anthony, you're a glutton for punishment for starting this thread on ILM.)

Sundar (sundar), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm completely in agreement with Alex on this one ... it's a choice between removing my eyeballs with rusty tweezers or having them pecked out by birds ... I've got to side with the New Kids. I'd rather do the deed myself than divulge responsibility to the birds.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

'Hangin Tough' covered by a death metal band (can't remember which) at a concert I attended in 1992 was 100x heavier and more bad-ass than 'Rollin'' could ever dream to be.

Isiah Blackfist, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

Call me boring and corny if you wish, but I seriously can't think of two songs I dislike more.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

Call me boring and corny if you wish, but I seriously can't think of two songs I dislike more

But 'We Are the World' is one of them.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

"Rollin'" is quite Limp Bizkit's worst single and certainly their most despicable. New Kids all the way.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 16 June 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Rollin'" is quite Limp Bizkit's worst single

Do you not know what its like to be the bad man, Bill?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 16 June 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Behind Bill's Eyes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

yeah I haven't heard that one, probably should've mentioned that (and I don't recall "Eat You Alive" well enough to properly gauge its badness)

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 16 June 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

"Behind Blue Eyes" is easily one of the best things Limp Bizkit ever did! They're so much better when they're big soppy douches as opposed to whiny, fake-aggro douches.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 16 June 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

sometimes you say such things.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 16 June 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

You know, I can't say bad things about "Rollin" now.

"Hangin Tough" is kind of amusing, but it lacks the fred factor.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Thursday, 16 June 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

"Hangin' Tough" is several orders of magnitude better than "Rolling". In fact I don't think I could come up with 10 songs I dislike more than "Rolling".
