critics, mingus, and y's

this was going to be me gushing over how amaing "black saint..." is, but then another idea.

in the liner notes Mingus tears, slashes, and bludgens critics. he's far from alone. i'd like to open up a discussion on what we all think the role of the critic should/could be...(the topic has been talked around in many threads here and has almost come to question at a few panels i've attended..but id like to go straight at it)
