I can't seem to find any.

Why isn't anyone re-issuing this stuff?

Ever since Soupy stopped smacking Sammy and Sinatra with strudel, something's been stopping his scintillating songs from summoning a sizable selection of spectators -- they just won't sell.

I believe some of his sons' recordings are still in print.

Well his sons were in Tin Machine with David Bowie.

They were a pretty bad band but still, pretty impressive.

I'm thinking perhaps of some slightly earlier material from them.

i once picked up soupy from his hotel in Southfield, MI and brought him to WDET-FM in Detroit. i just wanted you all to know that.

Did you kiss him?

Is it true that the reason his children's show got cancelled was because he made a joke about how if women's skirts got any smaller they were going to need two hairdos?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 17 June 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Ha. Never heard that one. I think he (also) got in trouble for suggesting that kids find their parents' credit cards and call the station/network with the numbers.

The Sales brothers also played with Iggy for a while, of course.

Or was it asking them to send in cash?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Saturday, 18 June 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

Snopes says no on the dirty jokes (though not the particular one that Tim reports), yes on the cash (and a suspension).

"Hey kids, last night was New Year's Eve, and your mother and dad were out having a great time. They are probably still sleeping and what I want you to do is tiptoe in their bedroom and go in your mom's pocketbook and your dad's pants, which are probably on the floor. You'll see a lot of green pieces of paper with pictures of guys in beards. Put them in an envelope and send them to me at Soupy Sales, Channel 5, New York, New York. And you know what I'm going to send you? A post card from Puerto Rico!"

Fuck downloading. I found the album *Soupy Sales Sez Do the Mouse and Other Teen Hits* for $1 at Princeton Record Exchange last year, and it is amazing.

I found that same album for $1 at a antique store in Dover, NJ.

Weird. It might be the same album

I saw Soupy in the Macys T'giving parade when I was 3. He was my idol!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 18 June 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

For the longest time, a used vinyl store here in Chicago had Soupy's Motown album in their soul section. Either they were too young to know who he was, or they shrewdly figured they'd get the Motown collectors by filing it under "soul" instead of "comedy."
