Mahmoud Ahmed "Alemye" WOW !!! nearly as good as "Almaz" and that's saying something. esp track 6 with those grunting boar noises at the end & track 7 with that olympian >ahem< "postrock" shuffle thing and the indonesian sounding stop-start goin on & the way the saxophones always sound lik ethey do on 1970s philip glass records oh yeah

I stopped keeping track after about volume 9, my favourite is 7 Erè Mèla Mèla, but Almaz is special too. (in fact I was listening to it last night). Not a bad track on the first 9 volumes of Ethiopiques.

Mahmoud Ahmed is right up there with Al Green for me as a singer, and thier funk "waltzes" are just incredible. Obviously there's lots of jazzin three, but I've never heard funk in three. Was it from some Western influence or is it a synthesis of a traditional Ethiopian beat?

I can't find anything past Volume 12 anywhere. If anyone wants to trade copies of anything past #12 for copies of anything from #1 to #12, please let me know.
