In Chicago, I listen pretty much exclusively to B96, Power 92 and WGCI. WGCI is a bit heavy on the R&B sometimes, and B96 has some annoying DJs, but they're all pretty great on the whole. B96 also has DJ Julian Jumpin Perez, who's pretty great. GCI played classic house music with Obama acapellas around the time he was inaugerated, which was cool.

Anyway, discuss radio in yr town.

WFMU
the only thing that's good about living in jersey

WPRB our of Princeton, but I never really listen to it. But if I had to pick one to listen to regularly, that would be it. (In reality I listen to WRTI the most, but only for "El Viaje.")

I do LOVE LOVE LOVE GCI's total R Kelly support, though.

WFMU, although I live nowhere near New Jersey.

Not a damn thing over the actual local airwaves, but WFMU is the most-played thing in my iTunes, followed by WREK in Atlanta (Georgia Tech's station).

Houston is pretty bad. I heard the Rice station playing Patrick Wolf last week, but then they had two hours of didgeridoo.

listening to WFMU a lot lately so there it is. I love KXLU but they've gotten even more of a punk/postpunk/hardrock stick up the ass lately, hope it's just a phase

KQED except the reception around downtown Sac is kind of smelly. For music, I dunno...Flash 103.9 for random 80's hits on the Friday drive home, Howard 93.7 for alterno rawk if the 80's music gets too sucky, which it frequently does...and Mix 96.1 for Saturday at the 70's while I'm cleaning the house.

Boston radio is weak as hell mostly but the one benefit of driving to Connecticut semi-regularly is Hot 93.7 which is rap/hip-hop with actual good song-selection and stays almost as up on new joints as the bloggerati.

88.1 KDHX in st louis. its just a community radio station but if you listened to it straight for 24 hours, i'm almost positive you could hear something you like. this goes for anyone, with any taste in music ever. its nuts.

My favorite radio station is WTAM 1100 (based in Wooster, Ohio I think?) because the signal is so strong that I can pick up Indians games when I'm in places as far away as New York and Massachusetts. I don't know HOW the hell it works, but it does.

I don't have a favorite music radio station. The local oldies station (WMJI 105.7 out of Cleveland) is kinda nice I guess, but, like most people, I'm really sick of all the songs they play.

KALX

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 19 June 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

followed by the bay area's classic rock station 107.7 THE BONE which I mainly like because I think they're still an independantly owned station

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 19 June 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

am radio signals follow the curvature of the earth; at night (less interference) you can probably pick up any large am station on your side of the mississippi--obv great for baseball

I'm definitely not the one to defend eddie and jobo!

Last night on power 92 they had this DJ mixing mid-90s ghetto house in with current houston/atl hip-hop, he was killin it. They actually do this fairly regularly, which makes me wonder how many clubs on the south side still play house to young audiences.
