pretty exciting

sez the dude in charge:

"I mean, no offense to TSL, Gimme Gimme or Academy, but New York City is very much in need of another outlet to serve the serious collector. Not to say there's anything wrong with any of the fine establishments named above, but you would think the Rotten Apple would provide dozens of serious options for getting your shop on and it doesn't. Also, we're putting alot of emphasis on diversity of sound: we like 45 King AND Jorge Ben AND the Persuaders AND Television and don't think there's a damn thing wrong with having a store that caters to all these tastes equally, along with the Reggae, the gospel, and basically all GOOD music. Throw in some dope and affordable art by New York artists (and I don't mean some foll from Kansas who moved to Williamsburg last month), a smattering of vintage music books, and some real different and exclusive mixes, and I really think the makings of something special are going down here. Finally, Paychecks and the team want this place to be a real community: if you have things to offer in the way of art, mixes, or just wanna come by and contribute some intelligent conversation, do so by all means. Despite the perception of some foolios on here, we're all hell of laid back people. Anyways, support your peers out in the REAL world doing REAL things!!!!!"

called "good records", opens 7/1/05.

Oh my gosh!

(why do i get the feeling this store will have the most snotty "laid back" staff ever?)

Anyways, support your peers out in the REAL world doing REAL things!!!!!

HOLY SHIT! ALL MY CD'S FROM THE PREVIOUS STORE WERE FAKE! ALL THE CDs were MANUFACTURED!

donut e-goo (donut), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Cake Shop just opened on Ludlow.

Fuck collectors, though. I would rather have that Stick McGhee track buried on a Rhino comp than on some $50 slab of deteriorating vinyl.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

but it's GOOD vinyl.

!!

i can spy on all of you from my fire escape..

poortheatre (poortheatre), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

awesome. I trust poortheatre to be the record quality spy.. making sure very record that leaves the store is GOOD, and that the customers are GOOD.

Poor, you should look out the window all the time with an eyepatch and have a parrot on your shoulder, rubbing your hands laughing maniacally, while holding binoculars.

donut e-goo (donut), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

(ok, those are tricky motor skills required to do that, but do the binoculars and rubbing hands thing back and forth.)

donut e-goo (donut), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

i'll put a rocking chair out there, too. and maybe a spittoon.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

eww, i got douche chills reading that.

Throw in some dope and affordable art by New York artists (and I don't mean some foll from Kansas who moved to Williamsburg last month)

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 18 June 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

jones (actual), Saturday, 18 June 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

As opposed to what?! Seascapes painted by my super Jose?

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 18 June 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Well, you know, everyone's sick of every record store featuring paintings of whales by Weiland, or drawings of skateboarders in motion on a beach boardwalk.

donut e-goo (donut), Sunday, 19 June 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

In a word:

die.

-- el sabor de gene (yn...), June 18th, 2005.

Couldn't have said it better. (I'm sure the store will be fun, but the guy who wrote this should be hanged alongside Action Rock PR Dude)

donut e-goo (donut), Sunday, 19 June 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

And in other yet another NYC record store closing news, Footlight Records is going internet only. Boo.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Sunday, 19 June 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

I just visited Cake Shop for the first time last week, and REALLY liked it--nice selection, nice clerks, and cupcakes!
