It's finally here! Inspired by purchasing that double-disc comp released late last year - shitgoddamn, there's so many great songs. It does a handy job of cherrypicking the best album tracks post LJ as well as the singles.

My picks: "Get A Leg Up," "Love & Happiness," "Again Tonight," Human Wheels," "Peaceful World," "Jackie Brown"

The biggest surprise was discovering how wonderful all the selections from "Whenever We Wanted" are. Less cranky and maudlin than usual.

This is no way the best post on ILX.

Is it cheating if you nominate "Death Letter" from the covers record he released in 2003?

Alfred, I like all your picks. I'd add "What If I Came Knockin'" and "Last Chance" to your list, though.

I'll play, but I'm afraid there's not a lot to add. "Love And Happiness" is pretty tight, but Human Wheels is probably his best top-to-bottom set PERIOD.

So throw "When Jesus Left Birmingham" and "Case 795 (The Family)" on in. The backing vox (Lisa Germano, is that really you??) on "The Family" deserve special notice, as does Kenny Aronoff's work throughout. Aw heck, let's add "Suzanne And The Jewels" while we're at it. And it's nice the way "Beige To Beige" reprises "Cherry Bomb," despite its bleaker take. Oh, and "The River."

So uh, all of Human Wheels then, with the exception of "French Shoes."

I heard "Human Wheels" by the pool today; it sounded unexpectedly poignant, especially the treated vocal.

"Jackie Brown" is unimpeachably lovely.

'Theo and Weird Henry' is a really good song.
