Destroy none, although the split with Huggy Bear leaves me kinda cold.
The singles, man. Seriously.

Destroy: "White Boy," a great live song whose one recording does it no kind of justice at all.

there are just about no wasted tracks (i'm sure there is one, but i cant recall it now)..just buy it all...
OTM. Everything's great and nothing sucks that I remember - if you like the band enough to check them out, you'll probably more or less like or love the LPs. There's probably a few more skippers on Reject All American but I think that might be a record where my duds are other people's absolute all-time favorite tracks.
If I had to POV it'd be "Jet Ski," "Alien She," "Carnival," "Double Dare Ya," and "Star Bellied Boy," but I also just realized that The Singles collects totally different material than The CD Version of the First Two Records which means there is like a huge chunk of their discography that I've never heard - oops, wtf was I thinking?
Christ what a great band though. I have gotten shit on ILX before for my impassioned, frothing adulation of Kathleen Hanna but god, you listen to those records and there is just something there. And they are way way more diverse than they ever get credit for - some damn solid punk balladeering in there, plus I mean the amount of humor going on in "Carnival," yknow? That never gets fit into the narrative about riot grrl...

It is with heaviest of hearts that the Sled Island Music & Arts Festival has to announce that 2014 guest curator Kathleen Hanna's appearances at Sled Island, including The Julie Ruin's Calgary debut, have been cancelled. Hanna's struggle with Lyme Disease, documented in the film The Punk Singer, is ongoing. Unfortunately, she is currently having a relapse which necessitates a difficult 3-month course of treatment. First and foremost, the festival's thoughts are with Kathleen Hanna, a true artist and inspiration, in this difficult time.

weird, just watched this last night. really made me kick myself for not seeing bikini kill in their day, what a fucking great live band.
maybe corny, but punk singer made me think about my 3-yr-old daughter... the other day I was watching some old rock thing on YouTube with her on my knee and she said "Why are there no girls?"
She asked the same question a week before when we were watching basketball.
Of course I showed her some women playing sports and rock n roll when she asked - bit watching Punk Singer made me think what it must have felt like for teenage girls in the 90's to have been asking that question their whole lives and then suddenly find Bikini Kill.

― difficult listening hour, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 18:41 (twelve years ago)
had somehow missed the yeah yeah yeah yeah reissue so only hearing the bonus live stuff now. a song called "fuck twin peaks"! wish i could understand the words. 1-minute slam poetry sesh "i busted in your chevy window" an unexpectedly compelling argument for property destruction; "girl soldier" an awesome ominous anthem + tobi vail showcase. what a grrreat band.

Just the one song at the very end. She was funny and smart and engaging and while I don't think I learned anything I didn't already know (it was kind of a narrative about her whole career and RG in general) I'm so glad I went.
