music you don't "get" -- but that's why you like it

Kierkegaard deified Mozart, but admits that his appreciation was predicated on the fact that he couldn't really fathom him (esp. Don Giovanni).

Is there music you enjoy that escapes you on some level? (Where you can't even guess what may have inspired certain elements of the arrangement/playing/... hell, the melody or recording or vocal style or anything)

Not entirely sure but I'd say Hrvatski. I enjoy it and whatnot, but it's so all over the place, it's awesome.

And most noise music.

Rev. Hoodoo (Rev. Hoodoo), Sunday, 19 June 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

There is no music I feel like I don't "get".

Jazz is a good example. I get it, in that I feel pleasure when I listen to it. But I'm aware that there are complex rules governing the music that I'm not understanding because I don't have that level of musical knowledge.

Art Tatum. Too extraordinary of a piano player for anyone to completely "get."
