well, fuck that. however, atleast its an attempt to control file-sharing through technology, instead of giving people the technology to share and then prosecuting them for using it. Apparently Dave Matthews band is using this...ppffft.

The new Foo Fighters supposedly is unrippable/unplayable in cars as well.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 20 June 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

Good thing the chances of me buying either of those albums is slim and none.

You can rip the Foo Fighters but it's annoying and complicated. My husband found a workaround, but you basically end up copying it twice before you can do anything.

Apparently Mr Grohl says if you want it on your ipod, you can go ahead and buy it from i-tunes, in addition to having the cd. Hey Dave: bite me.

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 20 June 2005 02:54 (twenty years ago)

SACDs are unrippable - ie Judas Priest.

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 20 June 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

xxpost-yeah right-it could almost be seen as a favor. fuck them anyway, though.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 20 June 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

Turn off autoplay and it will rip. You should have that annoying garbage off anyways.

svend (svend), Monday, 20 June 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

not always. i have a couple of cds where due to the copy protection the drive simply won't read the data properly, resulting in glitches and digital noise sporadically throughout the audio.

So far every album mentioned in this thread is available in great quantity all over p2p.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 20 June 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

I hate ipods

I am amazed that Immer, which I just bought today, has had no problems importing! Considering that both Kompakt 100 and Superpitcher's Today gave me fits.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

Copy-protected CDs: safe from p2p until one guy with a stereo, a PC, and an RCA-to-mini cable buys one.

Mac users. Get audiohijack and all of the little petty annoyances in life will be fully cured. I am not responsible for any use of this product that may lead to the listening of DMB while jogging or whatever it is that DMB fans do...

Oh, and joseph cotton fully OTM.

John Justen (johnjusten), Monday, 20 June 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

if eardrums can hear an album, it is rippable, period. it may not be the best quality, but for most people, it's good enough.

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

exact audio copy has no problem with emi's copy protected cds.
there is also the option of going old skool and copying in real time.

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Monday, 20 June 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)
