Bootleg DVD's

Came across a bootleg stall in Camden market yesterday - Not bought any bootlegs in years, but was very intrigued to see a load of Live DVD bootlegs on sale.

No doubt the quality varies greatly, as with old style CD/Record bootlegs, but has anyone had any experience with them - What kind of quality is out there, sound and vision wise, how professionally filmed are these things etc?

I picked up a U2 one from Germany and looking at the back it claimed to be filmed using 4 camera's with soundboard quality sound - Presumably this would be the higher end of the market so to speak??

Presumably, that would be a 'copied off a TV broadcast'

Not according to the bloke running the stall no, he said it was 4 people in the audience filming from different places - He wasn't sure where they'd got the sound from.
I would imagine if it was TV broadcast quality they'd stick it on the box as people would (possibly) be more inclined to buy it

I picked up a B-52's DVD on ebay. It's from very early in their career (Atlanta, 1978) and thus filmed rather primitively in B&W, but I love it!

I don't know if anyone can help me with this weird conundrum, but whenever I buy bootleg DVDs they always work absolutely fine on every piece of equipment I use other than my dad's fancy Pioneer DVD/DVD-A/SACD hybrid player.

When I play 'em on that the picture is fine but there's never any sound. I've tried changing the audio track and the stereo/surround modes but to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas?

They work fine on PS2s, laptops, PCs and DVD players. It's just this one machine which, for some reason, doesn't play the sound on bootlegs.

It's a pisser 'cos it's hooked up to my dad's home cinema which is, frankly, the shit: plasma TV, surround sound etc and I don't often get to watch these things on anything better than the cheapest equipment.
