Nothing ruins a radio-listening experience more than hearing the DJ drop an Audioslave song into the mix. What a thin guitar sound. What a thin voice. What a thin everything. SHOULD WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO CHRIS CORNELL IN 2005? NO.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 20 June 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

i prefer to call them rage against the audiogarden.

rajeev (rajeev), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

The best thing I can say about Audioslave is that I've never had to actually hear one of their songs.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Brad Wilk is an excellent drummer. Seriously.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Chris is a hottie!!!!!

nathalie's post modern sleaze fest (stevie nixed), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Breaking up Rage Against The Machine appears to have damaged Zack De La Rocha's career beyond repair.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes, they remind me of Soundgarden, which was a really good band.

T/S Velvet Revolver vs. Audioslave

DAEREST V1CE MAGAZINE!!!!! (ex machina), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

T/S: Weiland & Slash fucking off vs. Cornell & Morello fucking off

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

in a perfect world, niether band would exist, but we would have an Axl Rose/ Zack De La Rocha duets album.

JD from CDepot, Monday, 20 June 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

I kind of want velvet revolver to be good b/c they look like such ridiculous archetypes, audioslave I keep reading about in guitar magazines. I don't give a fucking shit about them.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

all the new chris cornell lyrics are straight out of 12-step recovery manuals ala the big book

j. rosenberg (pukeandburn), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

I hate the way that Tom Morello's ability has been limited within their structure.

elgolfo (elgolfo), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

Audioslave makes me realize that Zach's a cooler guy than i thought! I may not like Zach's vocal delivery style, but this increases the chances of an Inside Out reunion.. which is always a good thing (and would blow away anything At The Drive In or related out of the water, I'd hope)

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

I actually like their new song quite a bit.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

"I Am Woman" + Rick Rubin = "Be Yourself"

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

they keep morello and cornell busy and not infesting other bands.

AaronK (AaronK), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

"Like A Stone" is cool. Both bands would be fine if they replaced Cornell and Weiland with Rod Stewart and a Pop-Metal Singer Who Got Famous In The 80s respectively.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 20 June 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

This band was famous before it existed. had a record deal before it had played any shows. went into the recording studio to record an album before they ever wrote songs together. There is no artistic impetus in this band. They have nothing to express because they were created not out of a need for mutual artistic endevor but rather RATM lost Zach and hey here's some loser who was in soundgarden. It is all color and no passion. They were given a record deal by virtue of success. What else? Musically, they present boring, non-inovative arangements, tom morelly is cool, and Chris Cornell is a douche-bag, with a pompous timbre who sings stupid asshole melodies and downright awefull lyrics.

Charlie Lesoine, Monday, 20 June 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

"I Am The Highway" is a good song.

leonard (tk), Monday, 20 June 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

I loved Soundgarden and RATM certainly had their moments, but there really isn't anything about Audioslave to keep me interested.

I LUV U CHRIS :-)

kabobble, Thursday, 6 October 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

The only defendable aspect of Audioslave was when emergency services thought there was a terrorist attack in LA, but it turned out to just be the massive amount of fireworks they were using in their first video.

If they focused on this more, and less on the music, I think they would be more entertaining.

Audioslave are gods among us mere mortals.. They were famous before existing because they are actually THAT talented. There's too many good things to say about this band to start!

With Cornell on vocals the rest of the band seem to get better, if that was possible... Those three just gel as musicians and make good tunes...

Can;t wait til their new album comes out in autumn (no, it's NOT coming out in "the Fall" this time does not exist as any English speaker will inform you)

i liked the song "cochise"

the new song is one of the worst things i've ever heard.

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

cochise=smegma

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Monday, 31 July 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

Wow! I'm a 9v battery! I must be flat though as I don't feel very lively...

Their new song is their best yet! (I'm assuming you mean Original Fire' ?)

I may have to send my mate to this site, as he could argue far more eloquently in favour of this, quite simply brilliant band...

Rohan Chadwick (thelevellers), Monday, 31 July 2006 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, please do, we'd be honoured.

Chris Cornell gets top billing, but Tom Morello's work is the reason to go back to it.

def zep (calstars), Sunday, 4 February 2007 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

they've coughed out two extremely mediocre records that are actually bordering on outright bad

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Monday, 5 February 2007 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

Neither of their former bands have any dead members, and yet Alice In Chains were the ones that reformed last year.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 5 February 2007 07:35 (nineteen years ago)

nirrvana reforming would be more bogus, nonetheless

i realised quite recently that layne was responsible, perhaps unknowingly, for keeping jerry's monstrous ego at bay. thus alice in chains in its original incarnation worked fantastically well.

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Monday, 5 February 2007 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

Cornell has an incredibly powerful voice. You don't have to like it, but to dismiss him as an untalented singer is just silly. I love "Original Fire".

shorty (shorty), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

in a studio, yes. he's always been a more-than-slightly dodgy live vocalist though.

audioslave's first album had a handful of pretty decent tracks, but a hell of a lot of appalling plodding power-ballad filler.

m the g (mister the guanoman), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

I can agree with both of your points m.

To be fair though, most albums don't have more than a handful of decent tracks.

shorty (shorty), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

most albums don't have any.

m the g (mister the guanoman), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

Agreed.

shorty (shorty), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

i really liked "doesn't remind me of anything."

on his new solo album Chris Cornell covers Billie Jean.
despite not being a big fan of the original, its a fucking dreadful dreadful version.

lfam, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

Man, I remember buying Euphoria Morning when it came out because I was a huge Soundgarden fan (still am) and I just couldn't wait to hear what new stuff Cornell was doing...

...I think I listened to it once. In fact, I don't even think I played the whole thing. How many years ago was that now? Eight? Fuck.

MacDara, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

he's shite now (cornell). i have to listen to 'outshined' and 'jesus christ pose' full volume every one in a while to remind myself there was a time he was awesome

Charlie Howard, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

should we have to listen to chris cornell in 2005?

braveclub, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

now that the Audioslave ordeal is over and I don't have to worry about encouraging their unholy union, I have to admit that I liked some of their singles, although almost in inverse proportion to the amount they got played on the radio. "Revelations" and "Your Time Has Come" and "Show Me How To Live" >>>>> all their big unescapable hits.
