Fat Bottomed Girls - ANTIGONE RISING

Alex in NYC to thread.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

hahahahaha for fuck's sake

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

I'll take the GSL/Three.One.G tribute.. and that one even sucked, aside from the Blood Brothers cover..

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

wheres the darkness?

dmun drive-in (dmun), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

EXACTLY

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

For fuck's sake. Jason Mraz? Why not get Jack Johnston too?

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

flaming lips doing bo rap is somehow totally uninteresting and absolutely brilliant, both at once.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

#1 GARU G FAN (ex machina), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

I was so disappointed that even the Melt Banana cover was "eh"... I'm glad they did this, though. Brian May is going to regret "officially" plugging this latest one in retrospect and will come crying back to worship the 31G tribute... maybe.

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

There's a whole line of these major label tribute albums that unreservedly eat. I think it all started with the Elton John one back in 1991.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

I love XTC but the A Testimonial Dinner just sucked sooo bad.. the only saving track was by Terry & The Lovemen, for obvious reasons.

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

Has Hollywood Records done ANYTHING good aside from being the Queen reissue label?

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

9.the Locust "flash's theme" (0:56)

I HAVE TO HAER THIS

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

I guess this is as good a place to say this as any, but I don't think The Darkness sound like Queen at all.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

I love that Melt Banana cover.

On a Strict El Cholo Diet (Bent Over at the Arclight), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

the weasel walter version of "boheminan rhaposdy" is a thing of klanging/stumbling/karaoke beauty, the rest is merely good/ok

chris besinger (chris besinger), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Christ, Joss Stone doing Under Pressure.
And Blink 182 for Killer Queen? Oh dear, oh dear. That song needs camp treatment, not punk pop.
The Lips doing Bo Rap could be fun though. But the other comp looks far superior. I gotta hear the Melt Banana.

Stew (stew s), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

I guess this is as good a place to say this as any, but I don't think The Darkness sound like Queen at all

I completely agree with you!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

they don't sound like queen as much as they sound like they see themselves as being in the same lineage as queen, however rightly or wrongly - see also coldplay/radiohead.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

There is a realtor named Bryan May in this town. It cracks me up, whenever I drive by one of his signs - HOUSE FOR SALE, FOR APPOINTMENT, CALL REALTOR BRYAN MAY 859-XXX-XXXX.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Eleven is still together??????

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, yeah, I had almost missed that! What was that all about!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I don't think the Darkness sound like Queen either.. but I think they would pull off a better cover than any of the above.

"Fat Bottom Girls", for (rather obvious) starters.

donut e-goo (donut), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Wow. Even for a major label tribute album that tracklisting is spectacularly bad!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Sweet Jesus, you have GOT to be fucking kidding me.

Those responsible should be flogged with a cat o' nine tails.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 20 June 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Death On Two Legs - ROONEY

This is like taking a rare Van Gogh and scrubbing it with the feces of a rhino with bowel cancer.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 20 June 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

The last thing we need after Queen the Musical, Queeen the tribute album,,,, fuck Mercury was one of the biggest self-satisfied hubristic solopsistic idiots to walk the earth, spreading his disease from ass to ass without any compunction or sense of responsibility for the damage he was knowingly doing in pursuit of his own stupid asshole pleasure. Good riddance to bad rubbish, don't celebrate the fucking cretin.

theantiqueen, Monday, 20 June 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

Dear theantiqueen,

Fuck yourself.

Thanks. Bye.

John Justen (johnjusten), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Apparently, the antiqueen was too busy washing his/her "AIDS KILLS FAGS DEAD" t-shirt to reply...In the meantime, where do I find that 31G thingy? I am too drunk and lazy to search it out myself.

BTW, the Mraz-laden tribute album tracklisting makes me ill. Blargh...

John Justen (johnjusten), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
LEAKAGE

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

The Eleven w/Josh Homme version of "Stone Cold Crazy" is pretty tight.

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

This album is totally pointless, as is the current line-up of Queen. They were all about Mercury and his persona and delivery. There aren't many such big acts I can think of so intrinsically linked with their singer. Covering is a little pointless.

However if it has to be done I'd like to hear Andrew WK take on one of their's, maybe and fairly obviously We Will Rock You.

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

Fat Bottomed Girls: is this as mindscramblingly delicious as I could hope, or just meh?

rogermexico (rogermexico), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

I'm disappointed in the Lips cover.

van nostrum (Buck Van Smack), Thursday, 21 July 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)
