jcartledge (jcartledge), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Grime ministers are workers, urging people to "get their hands dirty" doing good for others. They care for society's rejects, and minister to ordinary laborers. They get a free proficiency in engineering, blacksmithing, armor-making, weaponsmithing, or some other physical mechanical trade.

Grime is a musical message performed by artistes like Dizzee Rascal from London. It is less about having a tight, tight band then being a real bear behind the microphone, carrying the crowd with you through the night.

One particular hotspot is where no tourist in London will ever take their tube: EAST LONDON. The poverty of East London is all up in the lyrics of such magicians as The Streets and Slaughter Mob.

Like the "no escape" attitude that runs through these streets, you also can't escape grime charging the pop charts of the US like the Beatles or Herman's Hermits. Lil Jon has expressed interest in being a part of this grime scene, even with so little money to be had, because there is that renewed purity that you can only hear in the sound of a true Englishman.

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Hey Semaphore, (real name? no can't be huh?)

If you are really into hereing my critical review of Shystie, please send me an mp3 of his tracks or album. Use my Gmail for this: gabet@gmail.com

And I promise I will come back tomorrow to explain his relation to larger grime aesthetics. Is it a he or a she.. Shystie?

Gabe Tonkin, Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

(Although if it is Gareth, do I get to claim a prize of some sort?)

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

NATHANIEL,

This is a message to you and it is a message telling you to STOP. I referred to my sister in only one post on this board, and now you will not stop talking about her. She is MUCH OLDER anyway. She does not meet guys through online anymore.

We are hear to talk about music, and if you can't figure that out, or appreciate grime discussion, then please find some other more productive outlets for this.

I bet you have never had a POP CHART HIT -- maybe it's time to start working on that.

Gabe Tonkin, Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

To all others,

Sorry for saying that on here... it is just trivial. I look forward to doing a review of Shystie for you soon.

Thank you especially Semaphore Adam when you send me that song.

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Me neither, but Nickies is close enough maybe we'll go this week.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

the Megatron CD will be on the shelf at Amoeba in the next day or two if it isn't up today.
as for the party -- go go go! it's all ya got. if you want something to happen in this town with this music, you gotta support. show up early, have a beer...

the only Brit in the lineup is MC Child, the rest are Yanks who spend uncalled-for amounts of money having records shipped from the UK.

heywood jablomi (heywood), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

We expats don't get to pass on those import prices either, ya know. ;)

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

I might well wander over to Amoeba to pick up the CD, though. See you there!

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Oh do you work at Amoeba, Heywood?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Everything you'll ever EVER need to know about grime is right here.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

How are we supposed to learn anything about grime by reading a smug, ill-informed review of a dubstep record?

I have to say I'm confused.

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

A Gime? What's a Gime?

http://hometown.aol.com/hughjaz433/images/homer_muscles.gif

Oh...a Giiime...

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

You were expecting something that doofus says to make sense, Adam?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

I love to hear Lil Jon work on a grime track, but I think I'd limit it to one track as it might have a certain element of novelty. He could prove me wrong though.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Grime is rap for indie rockers who don't want anyone to know they listen to rap.

knowitall, Wednesday, 22 June 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Your name is not apt.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Okay you guys got me waiting so bad to hear Shystie. I'm thinking that's going to be a good track, or hoping that. Or why would you mention it as a crucial grime element?

Checked Gmail and there's nothing from Semaphore so anyone else going to hit me with Shystie? I can go on Amazon and check sound samples but then I'm going to say Shystie sounds tinny like East-London-RealAudio grime style. HEHHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHHE

K thanks.
