MP3.com = scourge of the independent music industry

Bit of history: I have for two years gone under several musical aliases on MP3.com. My primary interest in the site is to let others hear what music i have been making. Mp3.com artists receive a small amount of money every quarter depending upon how many people download their music or buy their CDs... Making money is not really a goal as i make very little through this scheme, however i cannot let myself be associated with such fraud as explained in the extract from my account page below:

taken from the Autofire, Dog Latin and Caiius MP3.com websites.

- Effective April 1, 2001, at 12 a.m. PST, only Artists who are members of the Premium Artist Service will be eligible for Payback for Playback payments. - In order to receive P4P payments for April, you must register for the Premium Artist Service on or before 11:59 p.m. (PST) on March 31, 2001

Let it be known that I am now detracting from MP3.com. These mp3s will remain up, merely for convenience and ease of access, but this page will no longer be added to. MP3.com have finally shown themselves up for what they really are: money grabbing corporate bastards. Tell me if this makes sense: You pay MP3.com $20 a month so that they can pay you back 12 (if you're lucky and your name isn't 303Infinity, Trance][Control, Neurotron606 or some other bull). I am encouraging other artists, who, do not wish to hand out a good deal of money just for the privelidge of having their names written in bold on some stupid website; who, may live outside of the good ol' US of A and therefore wouldn't have the opportunity to pay their stupid $20 even if they wanted to, as well as having a third of their payback earnings going straight to the IRS, even though they may never set foot in the land of the free; who don't believe that unsigned, amateur and non-profit making music artists should be asked to pay extra money just for this, especially with the money they already have to fork out for new equipment, practice rooms, concert halls, flyers, internet fees, photograph sessions etc. etc. to do the same as I am and boycott mp3.com.

two months pass...
I dunno, I have four bands on mp3.com and I think its cool. Its free and I can refer poeple to my songs easily. If I ever get a record contract I am outta there. I mean, you cant expect them to stay in business without generating profits
