Jena (JenaP), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

what a fucking shit thread, talk about weeding out the kneejerk conservatives, who's going to say "rock, jazz, pop", absolute rubbish.

and Barima next time you moan about ILM negativity have a look at the last 50 or so posts of pointless whining from yourself, including the bizarro "no thanks" over on ILE today.

beardcore! how come no one told me??? is that true??????? i'm wish you shh.
mine was happy hardcore.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

happy hardcore > jungle > drum 'n bass

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

is that better than?

drum n' bass leave me dry too. (except for now i have visions of beardcore dancing in my head.)

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

When Colin Dexter ends up writing about "listening to Drums and Bass on his Walkman" in an Inspector Morse novel you know you've backed a loser.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

'happy hardcore' is a pretty great name...wouldn't want to listen to it for more than a few tracks (as part of a mix) at a time though.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

people seem to be just listing 'genres' because of what they know and dislike about the music rather than what the actual word would suggest to them if they'd never heard any of it before.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

how do you know that? *people seem*

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

oh, have i upset you?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

you might like to answer my question instead of acting like a prick.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

you seem upset.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:43 (twenty years ago)

the answer to the question, which seemed self-evident, is that i don't know that, it was merely my suspicion. ILM is a very suspicious place.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

translation: they named genres you like.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

happy hardcore > jungle > drum 'n bass

-- Marcello Carlin (marcellocarli...), June 22nd, 2005.

so yer just talking about the words marcello?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:51 (twenty years ago)

i think you're right

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

absolutely. you can tell the dreaded progressive gentrification tendency just from looking at the words.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

haha i don't know what yr talking about i just think something hardcorely happy sounds like it might be better than something which has nothing but drums n bass (like, what, the strokes soundcheck?)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

ah that must be it. i suppose it's too much to ask for reasons why some names turn people off. 'beardcore' i could understand, except it doesn't exist. 'folktronica' sounds a bit wanky to me and presumably others too, even before you hear whatever is supposed to fit that label (but The Notwist are good!). i don't really mind the 'a' attached to 'tronic' because i'm fine with pretension generally as long as it's not trite.

xpost x4

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

(xpost)

happy hardcore had 78 rpm samples at 3000 bpm. drum n' bass ended up with wind sound effects, electric pianos and flutes.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

and jungle had lion noises?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

no, jungle was hyperactive and manic if slightly slower. tremendous soundtrack to accompany the sound of breaking car window glass in pimlico.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

i think the correct answer is probably emo.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

ya, this is like every genre ever.

nu-anything and emo take the cake. emo might actually come out on top because it's just so incredibly snotty.

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

Thanks o!

Ronan, seriously, grow a thicker skin, or try to have an actual conversation with me instead of your non-answers and petty sniping. Or alternatively, go procreate in isolation.

BARMS, Wednesday, 22 June 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

(This is also hilarious considering I'm listening to Kiki's extended mix of Sinema)

Also, be a real poster, not a boorish troll, and maybe get me some example of my (presumably "baseless") "bitching".

BARMS, Wednesday, 22 June 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

I thought you were the inventor of Pitman, MC.

BARMS, Wednesday, 22 June 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

Well I passed my Pitman back in '79. Don't know about having invented it though.
