Search: The Pop Group "Y" CD reissue on radarscope.

..if for anything, to hear the clearest influence on Mike Watt's bass playing out of any record. fIREHOSE "Hear Me" = Pop Group "Thief of Fire"?

He also had a band in the late '80s called Head - we used to rehearse in the next room, but I never actually saw them live.

four years pass...
A bunch of stuff on the Creeping Bent label recently showed up on emusic...

The Gareth Sager album "The Last Second of Normal Time." Good lord this is good! Probably the closest thing I've heard (on the songs sung by Susie Hug, anyway) to early Annette Peacock. Am very surprised to find nothing about it here. I'm leaning strongly towards "genius."

seven years pass...

I'm still not clear on exactly what the four albums of his that came out a few years ago are (archival? demos? new?) but there's some serious gold there.

This track may be the best of them, and every time I start playing it it turns into one of those things where I play it over and over all day. Doesn't sound like Pop Group or, in fact, most of his other projects.

I'm a little surprised by quite how low profile he seems to be.
