Verdict: pretty much classic.

I really, really wish Sonic would start writing songs again. This record alongside his solo "Spectrum" LP and the Spectrum "Soul Kiss" album & satellite singles are the best things he did...

And I second Ned's comment about needing to have the expanded version of this! The shortened US release just doesn't do it.

I agree. "Hypnotized" is my favorite thing on the album and one of my top 5 Spacemen tracks.

Perfect Prescription is their best...IMHO.

If I had to choose, I would probably (shock! horror!) go with Jason's side, because it's just slightly more bubblegum. But luckily I've got it on CD now so I don't have to.

Spacemen 3 were like LCD Soundsystem: constantly taking other people's stuff, changing it a little and claiming it as their own.

That Missing Scientists track is great!

Reason why I asked is I was re-listening to PKember's virtual DJ show on WFMU from the early pandemic days and sure enough he played a Cars track (diff tho, "Best Friend's Girl) right before Electric Prune's "Big City". After listening to S3's "Big City" very loudly the other day, I though it might have been a sample in retrospect.

Sometimes this is my favorite S3 album but I've never liked the bloated cd version, including the incongruous "WTH".

oh I did not realize it wasn't on the OG LP as well. in that case I am glad SV subbed in the long 12" Big City but still wish they had done a 2LP or something

the cd is my fave S3. or the one i've played the most by a country mile. love it to death backward and forward.

Feelin' Just Fine is wonderful. It's a great album and flows pretty well considering the circumstances.

This was hard to find on cd in the late 90s compared to the other albums, I had really built it up in my mind as the ultimate epic perfect Spacemen 3 album before hearing it.

yeah it was maddeningly rare, I just had a tape of a radio station CD for years

I should really expand my experience of this band further the only album of theirs that I bought and played to death

wait what? oh it wasn't on the original LP? this was actually my first S3 album, bought the CD without ever hearing a note of their music when I was about 15 just based on what I'd read about it. it's a long CD so I guess I assumed it was a double LP, didn't realise it had a different track list.

It would be awesome if their label troubles were sorted and they could do proper reissues with Sonic’s participation.

Is Forged Prescriptions still available? Man, that was fucking great. That extra hazy Walking With Jesus. Sigh.

weren't there different perfect prescriptions too? i remember having a tape of it and someone said it was the "good one". is it like the standing on a beach kinda thing. extra songs? i could look on discogs but i'm sleeeeepy.

i had an original vinyl copy of recurring and i've heard the recent vinyl reissue and my original CD sounds better than both. imo. and yeah you get the perfection of when tomorrow hits too so go CDs!

I remember when I downloaded a ripped Perfect Prescription copy of the Taang release and there was terrible cut/scratch in one of the early tracks that I was certain had to have been due to the mp3 rip. Then I bought the actual release and found out nope!

Isn't there a gap between ecstasy symphony and transparent radiation where there shouldn't be?

that Taang release always baffled me. they could've put the entire 11+ minute version of "starship" on there but put some weirdly edited version on it. thumbs down!

I keep pointing this out - I follow a hardcore punk label based in London - they consistently put out great albums and reissues around £12-20. these people are putting out records on tiny runs of 100-500etc and they can make it work for £12-20. there is no reason for any record to cost over £20.

i like the first spiritualized album a lot. maybe cuz it still has the S3 magic.

i was just talking about this label on another thread today. i like what they put out a lot. ambient stuff. their records are so pretty and they sound awesome and they always retail for 18-20 and they are all limited. they started out as a minidisc label!

I think Genius' version is from Glass' tapes. It's the original version, but doesn't quite have the haziness (and more appropriate bonus tracks) of the original Fire CD.

tl;dr - Hoffman thread of Spiritualized collectors who "gotta have their Spiritualized vinyl" like it was a fucking Batman special, discover that the vinyl is warped and noisy as hell, but continue to buy them because they "gotta have their Spiritualized vinyl"

til;dr - Lazed Guided Melodies is a perfect 61 minute album in one long rush and come down. It's a perfect album. There's no reason to make it worse and inconvenient when you can get the CD for a couple of bucks.

i bought the tape of LGM when it came out! i have the CD now. the original vinyl was 2 LPs at 45 RPM. never heard that but i do like 45 rpm LPs on good vinyl.
