Has anyone heard the new Eliza Carthy album? It looks pretty good, but when it comes to English folk there's no one who can match my Shirley Collins...does anyone else have an opinion about this?

I have not heard this one but I don't see how I could fail to like it, as I'm a sucker for Eliza. Broken Ground, Red/Rice, Angels & Cigarettes, Anglicana, all very good. I like it when she brings the electronic thing in, I like it when she doesn't. I dig her when she's trad and I dig her when she's pop.

i have heard red/rice and wasn't too thrilled with it...but honestly i think she might have scared me off with the aggro ani difranco look. i love the really dark trad stuff, so i was wondering if any of eliza's arrangements are more like that, like the shirley-and-dolly arrangements.

five years pass...

She did a few numbers at Martin Carthy's 70th birthday shindig last night. I'd not heard a great deal of her stuff before but had a vague idea she was good - last night I was totally blown away. Especially "The Snow it Melts the Soonest". Wonderful.

fourteen years pass...

Apparently she was in town with Martin last week and I remembered this thread.
