Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Nevermind, got 'em...

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Do you own the album, because they come in the sleeve.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

He's not gonna pay $35 for the vinyl, Aja! Some people's "parents" aren't made of money ya know.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Parents' money!!! That was all my money. Except for two dollars, which I'll say went to a used 12".

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Nah ripped it from my friend, only own hard copies of Democracy and Pandemonium...

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Way to go , Aja! Nice defense.

alex: perhaps when aja said "album," she meant in the generic sense -- as in, vinyl, cassette, or cd -- and not the literal sense (as in strictly vinyl).

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 23 June 2005 05:25 (twenty years ago)

This is quite possibly my least favorite track by the band. Or at least my least favorite recent track (next to "Total Invasaion"). Curious as to why Bryan wants the lyrics.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 23 June 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

Actually, scratch that,.....my least favorite is, was and ever shall be "Jana".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 23 June 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Just wanted the lyrics cuz I was trying to convert that to an appregio-filled accoustic song with some harmonica backing for an open mic nite. And I could never understand the goddamned second verse.

Are you serious? Jana is definately not my favorite song by the Joke, but come on. Does anyone remember "America"? At least Jana had some meaning and guitar! Oh and "Stay One Jump Ahead". The beginning fine, but the rest is eh. And when Jaz starts rapping with his cousin....OMG!!!!!

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

Jaz doesn't "rap" with his cousin. His cousin raps on his own on the extended mix. Jaz is merely exchanging verses with session drummer Jimmy Copley.

Yeah, "America" is probably their lowest point (from an album of very low points), but "Jana," meanwhile, is a real clunker on an otherwise respectable disc, which somehow makes it worse for me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

ok.

Hmm, from the OTG sleeve:

ADDITIONAL RAP on Stay One Jump Ahead: JC001 (Who is Jaz's cousin)

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

Well, it is a rap, Aja. It's not a particularly good one, but a rap is still a rap. I seem to remember that JC001 was briefly in some record book as being "the fastest" rapper or some such dubious claim. He also appears on "Ten Little Girls" by Curve.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

This be him....

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Here's his site...

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

I know.

Look you really should be on the KJ message board. We had a whole thread(well, it started to take over the thread) about this. Ok, more of a discussion about it. At first, we thought JC001 was a pseudonym for Jaz.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Who needs the message board when there's The Gathering?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't know!

I just found out that Paul Ferguson puched Jaz's then girlfriend in the nose and split it down the middle, and that's why he's no longer in the band.

Why didn't YOU tell me this??????

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

You didn't ask.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

And you shouldn't believe everything you read on a message board.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

But Geordie and Raven verified it.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

Are you saying it's different story? If so, please tell.

Plus, I did ask a while back. Remember??? Maybe you were drunk or something, but all you told me about Paul being kicked out was that it was over a girl. Nothing more. I mean, was I supposed to assume that Paul had beaten her up when you told me this?

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

But Geordie and Raven verified it.

According to who?

Plus, I did ask a while back. Remember???

No.

Maybe you were drunk or something

Not funny.

but all you told me about Paul being kicked out was that it was over a girl. Nothing more. I mean, was I supposed to assume that Paul had beaten her up when you told me this?

Paul's depature from Killing Joke was largely over a girl, but the SPECIFICS of the case (who punched who, etc.) have not been disclosed. Moreover, there was more to Paul's fallout with Jaz than simply the "Yoko Factor". It's just not that cut and dry, Aja.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I know Alex, but this is just one of the many things that lead to this, and it's very interesting.

Who verified the verifing? The girl that did the interview with the Joke that I posted here. Well, not this theard. If you really want to figure it out, just email her and ask her if she's telling the truth.

You being drunk not being funny???

http://www.misera.net/ail/galleries/alexinlondon/me_alex3.jpg

Yes, the gathering is a beautiful place. Why don't I go there more often?

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Whether or not I was drunk then, now or anytime is not for you to speculate, and it's in spectacularly poor taste when you do.

The Gathering is a more more reliable place for pertinent Killing Joke information.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Are you drunk???

I kid, I kid.

How am I supposed to know? Their message board is down.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

This discussion is over.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

I love you Alex!!! Don't leave me like this.

Ok, look. I'm sorry I said you were drunk. You of all people to take something like that seriously surpises me. What have you told all the new people before they post? Not to take what is said here seriously, and now you're upset over this.

I'm very sorry. Seriously. (Uhh, maybe that should be "Honestly")

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

It's not that I'm taking it seriously, it's merely that I'm pointing out that it was an obnoxious thing to say.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Ok.

But you even said yourself that more often than not, it's acurate.

Once the Gathering's message board is up, I'll take a look over there. Ok.

Friends?

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Just don't be a dingbat and we'll be fine.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Ok.

Thanks!!!

So, (I know this is going to sound so stupid) do you know ALL the Killing Joke lyrics?? I can't figure out anything except the chorus to "Fall of Because".

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

I don't know them all off the top of my head, no. I doubt even Jaz does.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

Ha!! Probaly not. It sounds like he's just making noise anyway.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

(I looked into the abyss and the abyss looked back...)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Ha!! Probaly not. It sounds like he's just making noise anyway.

He's not. You're not paying attention.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

What!!!

I'm trying ever so hard!!

Look...

.....I said
It's dark out side
...
.....

The fall of BECAUSE
The fall of BECAUSE

That's about it.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm off to a good start.

How about you?

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

My fave was always:
"Look at the controller
A nazi with a social degree
A middle class hero
Rapist with your eyes on me
You beast for masturbation
A preacher to the nuns you fuck
You'd wipe out spastics if you had the chance
But Jesus wouldn't like it.
No!"

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

I have absolutely no idea what it was about, but whatever it was Jaz really didn't sound at all happy about it.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

Jaz didn't sing that part, Paul did.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

Re: "Pssyche", Youth sings the first verse, Jaz the second and third, and Big Paul sings the bit about Nazis and nuns fucking.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

As far as I can remember Youth used to sing the first verse live but Jaz used to sing the rest.

Maybe Paul couldn't sing and drum at the same time?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 30 June 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

Nah, that's definetely Paul's verse at the end. Moreover, when Martin Atkins was in the band, he used to sing that part.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 30 June 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I always thought it was Youth singing the verse about the Nazis.

In any case, Raven does it now.

This is so cool: Aja's kicking Alex's ass about his expert topic.

'Never Get To Me' is OK - it makes sense when you're feeling drunk and sentimental - sort of a beery anthem of defiance.

I don't think I'm kicking Alex's ass. I mean, explain to me how I was doing this?

Also, if "Never Get to Me was a beery anthem of defiance, then Alex would have no choice but to love it.

Aja (aja), Friday, 1 July 2005 04:26 (twenty years ago)

hahaha

moley (moley), Friday, 1 July 2005 04:28 (twenty years ago)

Glad you think it's funny.

Vinnie, Tuesday, 27 January 2026 10:50 (four months ago)

Funnily enough I was listening to the album "Night Time" a few weeks ago and the lyrics of "Tabazan" couldn't help but leap out at me.

I've tried to understand the ways of men they taught me
They've lost their values as we define a wealth
Semen and blood is all I've got, investments of a future
I'm searching for a new gold, yes, I'm searching for a new gold

A voice is calling
Move closer to you, yeah

Virile, young men run down the street in havoc, singing
"I wish to build, I penetrate, I penetrate"
Restricted sexuality gives birth to worlds of terror
And all the time, I'm trying to piece new schemes together — help me

Architects, erect erections, monoliths are raised
I love the swollen mound, I love the swollen mound
All hail the new seed breeding from our hearts and wombs
All hail the new seed breeding from our hearts and wombs

And night and day, run 'round in circles following sex instinct
Push it between her legs and stretch the lips, mother, relieve me
Bodies entwined in human tangle at the point of climax
It shoots forth the new gold, and, at last, reason makes perfect sense

A voice is calling
Move closer to you — yeah

I'm shooting, shooting forth
I'm shooting forth the new gold now (Ha!)
I'm shooting, shooting forth
I'm shooting forth the new gold now (Ha!)
I'm shooting, shooting forth
I'm shooting forth the new gold now (Ha!)
I'm shooting, shooting forth
I'm shooting forth the new gold now (Ha!)
I'm shooting, shooting forth
I'm shooting forth the new gold now (Ha!)
