Titch Gwilym died in a house fire earlier this week. His track is the Welsh national anthem played in the style of Hendrix's the Star Spangled Banner... ! Crazy stuff.

This looks good, but with the slight caveat that the only person I've ever heard on it is Meic.

lovely, quite some songs trigger a 'wickerman ost' association (including your teacher's track, Dr. C.), Gorlfenwyd's pretty funky, the intro to Meic Stevens' "Y Crwydryn A Mi" is terrific. i'm definately going to get this comp.

I own a couple Meic Stevens albums, and they're both pretty great - Outlander in particular.

Most of this was put together by Andy Votel and Dominic from Finders Keepers... I think Gruff was only involved at a pretty late stage. Funny thing is, most of this stuff is viewed as totally cheesy, trad shit inside of Wales, if it's even remembered at all. Definitely well overdue a revival.

It's great. Y Diliau's singer was my wife's primary school teacjher, not mine. She told me how she was quite often on Welsh TV in the 70's, but I imagined from her description something more mainstream folk, less spooky.
Jason - you say that Gruff was only involved at a late stage, but he namechecked a lot of these artists and tracks in a Mojo piece around 5 years ago - including Y Diliau.

Has anyone heard Gruff's Phantom Hour mix? It's fantastic, too. He's got an incredibly encyclopedic knowledge of psychedelia, folk, and Welsh tunes.

Then when I listened, I realized.. the stuff on here really nothing to do with SFA, really. Sure, you can KINDA hear where SFA were coming from, but this is basically like a Welsh Nuggets type comp, except there's more breakbeats. It's really a must for anyone who's into "early" psych-rock from places where English is not the main language. (I put "early" in quotes as I think this is mainly stuff after the groups normally associated with Nuggets yet early enough for that style to still be relevant at the time.)
In other words: if you hate SFA, you should listen to this.if you don't really care that much for SFA, you should listen to this.If you love SFA, you should listen to this.
