I haven't been able to find any info about this.
Is it out yet?
If not, is there a release date?
Is the track listing the same as Minimum/Maximum?

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 23 June 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I've been looking all over but no luck. I thought it would come out at the same time as the CD

Die Emanzipation von Baaderonixx (redukt) (Fabfunk), Thursday, 23 June 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

Somebody here's gotta know...or at least can make up something!

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 23 June 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

It's great - they do a 16 minute version of "You Belong to the City" which kills the original.

Pangolino 2, Thursday, 23 June 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

"director's commentary" in robot voice!

Another Allnighter (sexyDancer), Thursday, 23 June 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

a preview:Windows Media, Broadband

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 23 June 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

awesome. i can't wait to see the rest.

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 23 June 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

there's a couple more

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 23 June 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

eh... near the bottom here

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 23 June 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

do we have any idea on when it's coming out?

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 23 June 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

Nope :(

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 23 June 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

it will be out after this year's tour - so in July or a bit later...

Leo77, Thursday, 23 June 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

Great, thanks! Did you make that up or do you know for sure?

StanM (StanM), Friday, 24 June 2005 05:30 (twenty years ago)

repeat: Is the track listing the same as Minimum/Maximum?

peepee (peepee), Friday, 24 June 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

Well since all their gigs have exactly the same setlist, I'd bet on the DVD having the same one as the CD's.

Die Emanzipation von Baaderonixx (redukt) (Fabfunk), Friday, 24 June 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Will the DVD also have separate German and international releases like "Minimum-Maximum"?

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 25 June 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

September!

27/06/2005

Kraftwerk DVD will be released in September...
EMI Records from Germany announced the release of upcoming
Kraftwerk Live DVD to 26/09/2005.

The DVD will bring recordings from 2004 Tour, with concert
images and audio from Europe (Poland, Slovenia, Latvia,
Estonia, Russia, France, Germany and England), USA (San
Francisco) and Japan (Tokyo).

The audio are the same from MINIMUM-MAXIMUM Double CD,
plus edited videos from Kraftwerk stage in several
angles, audience, Ralf, Florian, Fritz and Henning playing
live and used videos in background wide-screen.

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

How about some exclusive backstage footage?

Die Emanzipation von Baaderonixx (redukt) (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Sort of an odd idea for a DVD -- do we need to see the guys standing in front of the videos? Maybe we do.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

it's a very necessary DVD after the live album - the visuals are just as important as the music with their show.

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

if they dont have a "background video footage only" option then i will be very annoyed

zappi (joni), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

I think that would be those "used videos in background wide-screen"

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

xpost: don't see why you'd be that annoyed. the videos were designed specifically to be background.

Another Allnighter (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, all I'm saying is that if it's mostly a film of projected videos with people standing in front of the projections, that may be a tad odd (as opposed to just using the videos themselves in a creative way). The visuals are indeed both essential to the show and well done. We'll see how they approach it.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

You can see a sampler upthread

Baaderonixx (no can do) (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

xpost: only as odd as their performance itself

Another Allnighter (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Oh come on! One of the highlights of the show was seeing Hutter sing the vocals to the tracks by very delicately putting his hand over his headset microphone.. the gesture was very Kraftwerk. I definitely want to see that, at least. Not necessarily high-rock ZOOM effects, dood, but at least some evidence that they were present. I kinda liked the stationary investment banker presence they exuded.

donut e-g (donut), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

xpost - yeah it's true, if the DVD focuses on the four of them just as much as the visuals, it'd be weird. tough to say from the preview clips, which definitely give the group more attention than i expected.

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

I assume there will be a video-only mode

Baaderonixx le Belge (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Saw them at the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium last night and I'll tell you what I'd like to see on the DVD: the subtleties that make them human after all < / daft punk >.

I was just about in the front row and those were the greatest things: the little grins at each other, the little smirks when the crowd went nuts (and the crowd was very loud and into it and rhythmically correct when clapping along), the tiny pained looks (from Ralf mostly) when the intros to the "new" tracks weren't met by the same crowd roar as the older tracks (but when the dance beat kicked in the crowd exploded and his face relaxed too), Henning having to point at his tie because Fritz hadn't turned on the LED lights right before Numbers (and the tiny "tss!" grin and no-shaking of his head), the quick uneasy glances when the first note of one of their solos was too loud (mostly from those two young 'uns in the middle as well. all of them do play a lot more live than you would expect. I had listened to the live album quite a lot beforehand and the differences were very noticeable), the "yeah yeah, we know we're supposed to stand still all the time, but our knees move all by themselves" little dance moves from all of them (except Florian, who succeeded in standing still all the time (he did grin during those crowd explosions though and he went completely overboard during his Music Non Stop solo spot: he moved his upper body to the echo/filter sounds that started high and ended low, so his head was under his keyboard stand for a second. Then a quick grin, a boyish "oops" look at the very surprised looking others, a small theatrical jump off, a bow at the crowd and a running robot impression for his exit stage right - yes, Florian!).

Anyway. Festival set (everything from Minimum/Maximum in that order except Neon Lights and Pocket Calculator/Dentaku, which they didn't play), about 80 minutes, drastically shortened versions of some of the longer tracks (Autobahn and Radioactivity were only about 4 minutes each I think, but Trans Europe Express was the long version with Metal On Metal). Expected to be disappointed because I've seen them before and I had listened to the live album a little too much beforehand, but I still was very impressed.

So yeah, those subleties on DVD, hopefully!

two months pass...
And another promised Kraftwerk release date has come and gone...

Nice! Their show at the Greek here in LA was a revelation for me. I had no idea!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 17 October 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

hello christmas present!

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 17 October 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Has anybody got this yet?

Being sad, I ordered the Notebook - unfortunately it's been delayed by a week, but since this is Kraftwerk we're talking about it's hardly surprising.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I've bought it about an hour ago and it's brilliant because of the stylish simpleness of it all: the packaging, the menu structure, the way the background projections mix with the on stage images. The sound is perfect (and I only have stereo so the usually even better 5.1 is probably even more incredible).

The only extra is that MTV version of Aero Dynamik, that's suddenly 4:3 instead of widescreen like the rest, but it does prove how their live versions are NOT the same every time, so that'll shut up some of their critics, I hope.

Extremely recommended and unmissable, what did you expect me to say?

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

I expected everybody to say that, frankly, but the lack of chat on the thread made me thing the standard release might have been delayed as well.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

I'm upste now to have bought the CD, since I can't really justify getting the laptop package now...

Baaderonixx weaves a daisy chain for... SATAN!! (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

The smaller but cooler shop I usually go to had already sold out ("we had more than usual because we knew it was going to sell well, but we didn't expect them to fly out the door this fast..."), the bigger chain stores had lots left. That's here in Ghent, Belgium, at least.

Will try very very hard to ignore that notebook package if I ever see it somewhere. It wouldn't be the first thing I buy more than once, but I'm trying to quit...

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

And to answer my own question upthread: yes, there are German and English versions. (see the Amazon.de "save X when you buy both together!" thing)

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Damn. Broken Amazon link. Anyway. Go to Amazon.de, search for Kraftwerk DVD and you'll see both.

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

I've since watched the whole DVD a couple of times and it's just Wow. Their mythical mysterious status is still intact, you get just a couple of glimpses of what they actually do onstage (it involves sliders and wheels and keyboards) but not enough to really understand how it happens.

(The only extremely short and anonymous shot of the crowd: 1 hour and 1 minute into the show, during Radioactivity.)

StanM (StanM), Saturday, 10 December 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

How about some exclusive backstage footage?
-- Die Emanzipation von Baaderonixx (redukt)

(we see Ralph, Florian and the other two no-one cares about walk into the dressing room in single file with a neat, courteous casualness that can only be described as teutonic. The two no-one cares about walk into two large, rectangular open roadcases, reverse to face the camera, assume blank, plastic expressions, and seemingly turn off. The cases then close automatically).

Ralph: I thought Pocket Calculator went particularly nicely tonight. No detectable irregularities occurred.

Florian: Ja - the crowd expressed considerable satisfaction at the point where the song ended.

moley, Saturday, 10 December 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

or:

ralf and florian walk into the dressing room. a roadie kicks shut the door behind them. they stand stock still for two seconds. then ralf shouts: "WOOOAH DUDE GIMME FIVE!" and they crack open six magnums of champagne. a hi-tech hatch opens in the wall, revealing a futuristic space-age chamber containing writhing robot groupies atop a mound of cocaine. etc.

god damn, i hope i get this for christmas.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 11 December 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

I hope you do too, but where are your family going to find writhing robot groupies?
