hey Julio, wanna go and see Rick Bishop on a fucken boat?

SIR RICHARD BISHOP + LITTLE WET HORSE + More TBC
Friday 22 July
The Golden Hinde, St Mary Overie Dock
Boarding 8pm
£7 advance tickets available from the Golden Hinde
Museum Office
Tel: 08700 11 8700
Email: info@goldenhinde.co.uk

SIR RICHARD BISHOP, best known as 1/3 of the SUN CITY GIRLS, is also a dazzling unaccompanied guitarist. Armed only with a single steel string wooden guitar, bare-knuckled Bishop fends off the horrors and dangers of the night with ease, as he spits out glorious white robed arabesques, django inspired gypsy arcs and latin terracotta flourishes like so many spinning tumbleweeds in a one horse town that is his alone.

The Golden Hinde is an exact scale, fully operational reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake's 16th century galleon that sailed around the world 1577-80. The modern galleon has also circumnavigated the globe, and is a floating museum open to the public. There are five decks complete with 22 cannons and artefacts of the period! The ship is berthed at St Mary Overie
Dock, a stone's throw from Southwark Cathedral, Borough Market and London Bridge tube.

ALSO:

WOLF EYES + SUDDEN INFANT + DURACELL + LEOPARD LEG
Monday 11 July
Barden's Boudoir, 38-44 Stoke Newington Road, London
Doors 8pm
£5 on the door

WOLF EYES are the Ann Arbor, MI, trio of Nate Young, Aaron Dilloway and John Olson. They are a noise band and the pitome of self-sufficient musical expression, building an iconic reputation with painfully limited self-releases on a myriad ormats since 1997. Support comes from France's self-proclaimed 'one man Bolt' DURACELL, performing Nintendo covers with lightning fast drums and triggered samples and LEOPARD LEG, an eight-strong all-female drum troupe from Brighton.

(ho ho stoke newington - on the 73 bus I go)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 24 June 2005 07:29 (twenty years ago)

Sweet Jesus! That Rick Bishop news is like a cannonball to the cranium. God, am I ever up for that.

Saw Wolf Eyes play in Brighton a couple of weekends ago at a private party. 100+ people rammed into some guys basement. Hot bloody chaos, but too oxygen deprived to really listen to what was going on. Not heard of Leopard Leg before, but it's probably the Polly Shan Kuan Band crew up to no good, and therefore, I reckon it'll be just peachy.

Armed only with a single steel string wooden guitar

Does this mean his guitar has only one string?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 24 June 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

Mock ye not! How many other people can you name that play just one guitar, that's made out of wood and has steel strings on it? Eh? Eh? Speak up lad!

Oh actually, wait there...

NickB (NickB), Friday, 24 June 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

What is a wolf eyes gig like?

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 24 June 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

cpl more i think i'm up for:

Fri 1 Jul
City Of London Festival: The ICP Orchestra at the Spitz
The legendary Dutch "Instant Composers' Pool" covers music from Ellington and Monk to Count Basie and Kurt Weill plus European band music of a lost age. Led by the profound pianist-composer, Misha Mengelberg, ICP is made up of some of the best player improvisers in the current jazz scene. This is improvised jazz at its most deft and sophisticated.
www.colf.org
Two sittings: 7.30pm & 10.30pm

and then there's the Stooges at the Hammy Apollo on August 30th

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 26 June 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Oh boo! Just read the Upset the Rhythm newsletter and saw this about the Rick Bishop gig...

***Please Note*** Due to overwhelming public demand,
this show has been moved from the tiny poop deck of
The Golden Hinde to our new favourite venue, the
Underbelly! Please tell yr friends!!

Was really looking forward to going on the boat as well...

PS Julio probably got the mail about FAUST and CIRCLE in London this weekend, but maybe there are other people who haven't heard about that.
