calling DJ's and dance music scholars

yeah, so my friends and i are going to be holding some parties around the place with generator, PA and a computer. i have a pretty solid, varied set put together, but i was hoping for some input from experienced DJs or other people with dance music knowledge, as to what tracks get parties fuckin sizzling.

YSI's would be useful for crazy-rare tracks... thanks for any help.

Nic.

Tip: don't use mp3s they won't get anyone sizzling cos there isn't any bass.

franz ferdinand is good. gets em up.

Tip two: don't preprogram your set. Go with what people are getting off on.

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 24 June 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

i wouldn't preprogram, i'd get bored.

also, there is more than sufficient bass from what i've tested the PA with.

tracks?

Maybe if you're listening to one of the samples from Juno - but If you've got something encoded at 192kbps + you won't notice any difference, especially over a club PA where the bass will have been EQ'd up anyway.

what kind of event are you putting on? how are you advertising it? who do you hope to attract?

dance music is pretty broad, mate. i've seen loads of people dance to franz ferdinand. or - o yes - you wanted "experts". dance music experts.

i'll fuck off now.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 24 June 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

oh no wait. it was scholars. scholars

hehehehe

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 24 June 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

i'd suggest a set of larry heard classics.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 24 June 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

We need more specific info: what kind of people, style...do they know dance music? all this makes a difference as to whether to recommend big, nice filter house stuff that (most) everyone likes, or minimal techy stuff that's more of an acquired taste...etc.

or just go to the ysi thread and grab the goodies

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 24 June 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Music by Prince. Music produced by Prince. Music that sounds like Prince. Michael Jackson. Situation by Yaz. That's it.
