C90: Oppressive Summer Nights Mix

I'm trying to make a mix of sultry but slightly creepy tunes for heavy summer nights. I'm imagining glitzy rooftops parties under a yellow moon. This is what I have so far, any suggestions?

Bobby Valentino - "Slow Down"
Death in Vegas - "Rocco"
Sade - "Cherish the Day"
Tori Alamaze - "Don't Cha"

Ooooh....good idea, this.

"Yellow Moon" by the Neville Brothers, for a start.

Grace Jones - I've seen that face before
Alexander Robotnick - Dance boy dance
Aural Exciters - Emile (this one is simply fantastic!)

"The City Sleeps" by MC 900 ft. Jesus

A lot of Tricky songs would work. "For Real", for ex.

These might fit the brief...

Signer - Night Is Blurred
Portishead - Only You
Boards of Canada - Happy Cycling
Goldfrapp - Tiptoe

It's the second time I've mentioned it in two days, but howabout "The City Never Sleeps" by the Eurythmics. I'm not sure if it's on any of their own albums, but it comes from the soundtrack to 9 1/2 Weeks. It plays during the scene wherein Kim Bassinger sweatily masturbates while watching slide projections of paintings.

Great idea for a thread. Lots of recentish rnb would seem to work, other stuff is not coming readily to mind.

Tweet - call me
TLC - Creep (ok, not recent)

But 'Slow Down' owns this thread.

Red Snapper 'Hot Flush'
Laurent Garnier 'Forgotten Thoughts'
Serge Gainsbourg 'Bonnie & Clyde (Herbert mix)'

TLC - Creep (ok, not recent)

Better still, the Afghan Whigs' cover--it's got a nicely sinister edge (as does everything else I've heard by them).

Nackles (Nackles), Friday, 24 June 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

Lil Rob - "Summer Nights"

Thanks for the tips. I've been teweaking this around but I'm not completely staisfied. I'll probably have to make two of these, a rock-leaning one and a slicker dance/rnb one. Damp oppressive rock seems to conjure southern roadhouse joints, while Rnb stuff fits better my initial concept of summer creepy-chic.
I'll post this when done.

Very good work, Baaderonixx - I got a download of it and it flows in a most agreeable manner. Will pass on to a few friends, if that's ok?
