every time i hear "Hound Dog" by Elvis on the oldies station I think of grindcore that I love. no wonder alec empire made an Elvis album. Also, The Sonics! And probably the Monks. I would have to check. If you looped that hounddog drum roll for an entire album of metal...i would buy it.

Yeah, I always thought the guitar sound on this was very metallic. Not in the sense of metal music, but like a big CLANG.

I met D.J. Fontana once and told him the drums on "Hound Dog" were the greatest sound ever. (Rockist!) "*Really*?" he answered.

in a way, the intro drum fill on "Rock n' Roll" by Led Zep, but only the very end where he starts doing straight notes instead of the syncopated pattern....

there's a part in Amboy Dukes - "Baby Please Don't Go" where the drums get into a wicked double time part and the rest of the songs stays the same tempo
