Who Will Die First: Ian McKaye or Bob Mould?

I'm going with Bob

Ian lives an invariably cleaner lifestyle (diet, excercise, etc.), so I'd say he'll outlive Bob.

That said, I'm somewhat put off by these threads. I think both of these gents deserve long, lustrous lives, and shame on you for predicting their deaths.

I hope they live for another 100 years, but let's face it, they're both gonna die one day, even you and I. I'm just taking guesses.

This guy?

it's really bad taste to ask who is going to die first, and really cruel to the people that might be around who know them.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 25 June 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

should I ask who will live longer?

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Saturday, 25 June 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

hey, if this thread tempers BM's ego, i'm all for it.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 25 June 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Alex, you apparently don't know much about Bob's lifestyle within the last 5 years--clean and sober (as he has been for, oh, since the break up of Husker Du), works out twice a day, eats extremely well. He's in the best shape of his life right now, so your theory holds no weight.

Susan, get your own ego in check. If your back story looked like Bob's you'd have bragging rights too.

And I agree with Orbit, this thread is in extremely bad taste.

i did a short phone interview with bob mould the other day. he did not sound like a man at death's door. decidedly jolly, in fact.

is there a way to block posts from specific users from showing up? Like a 'MyILM' kind of thing? That would be useful.

Should probably check the FAQ...

Bob did drugs and drank a lot. Ian has never. I still say Ian's healthier.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 26 June 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Weird, I've always thought of Bob Mould as being a really humble guy.

For what it's worth, long term healthy living is fine and good but it does not automatically grant anyone a long life. All kinds of crazy stuff can happen, terrible accidents that go on every day. And then there's cancer.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Sunday, 26 June 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Who suggested that he wasn't humble?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 26 June 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

Susan Douglas, a few posts up.

Man...You guy's don't understand.

I'm just pairing 2 similar artists and asking who will die first.

No one seemed to have a problem saying Craig Nicholls (of The Vines) will die before Julian Casablancas. Craig is a person too, just like Ian and Bob, who will both die someday.

No one even had a problem with the Cher vs. Keith Richards thread (Who were both great artists at one point).

YOU GUYS ARE HYPOCRITES

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Sunday, 26 June 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

One thing's for sure, they're both going to outlive Grant Hart.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 26 June 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

I'll Toast to That

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Sunday, 26 June 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

The closer to home it hits, the more it makes you think about it. I don't really feel connected to Cher or Keith Richards, they are not part of my universe. I don't think that makes me a hypocrite. And I didn't see the other thread.

I think they are all in bad taste, but the Cher vs Keith Richards one doesn't bug me as much because Keith Richards' death has been a running joke for so long--since I was a kid in the 70s in fact.

I think Dead Pools are morbid too--this kind of stuff is only funny if the people involved are pure media figures to you. If you have even a slight connection to the people involved it feels cruel.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 26 June 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Man, I've been listening to Ian and Bob my whole life.

I listen to the albums all the time, 2wice in a row sometimes, and I love the shit out of them bitches.

This thread doesn't mean I don't share a connection with the music, because I do...I DO!!!!

It's just a question.

P.S. I share a connection to The Stones as much as I do Fugazi and Husker Du. I don't think it's funny if Keith dies. This isn't a funny thread. It's never funny if anyone dies.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Sunday, 26 June 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

It's never funny if anyone dies.

Would there be anyone on ILM who would not find the event of the Dave Matthews Band tourbus going off a cliff, everyone surviving, only to have the sewage compartment explode and drown them all not funny?

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 27 June 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

i would find it funny if everyone on ILM agreed that it was ok to find it funny. if everyone agreed it was in good taste to find it funny, then i'd laugh all day long.
