Would Albums, Songs, and/or Band/Artist would you listen to if you have a cold (like me).

I'd say anything by Magnetic Fields. Stephen Merrit has the best Stuffy Nose voice.

The record doesnt sold like sick music, but LET IT BE is always linked in my mind to sickness. When that let it be naked bullshit came out i had the flu for like a week plus i was reading that book about that record. noty only is it their worst record, but now i feel physically ill if i lsiten to it.

It was a childhood sick-day favorite so Negotiations And Love Songs is a fallback for when I'm bedridden. When I'm having one of those nagging colds over a week and still going to work I find I'm quite sympathetic to the works of Matchbox 20. All that bawling about how he wants sympathy, someone to take care of him, wishing the real world would stop hasslin', it works really well when I'm feeling a little unwell and wanna be fuh-REE ohf MAH DUH-ZEEZE.

Superpitcher's Here Comes Love. First listened to it when I had one of the worst colds of my life (yeah, I know, a bad cold isn't all that horrible, but anyway). Could hardly breathe, sneezing constantly, feeling drained and woozy, and the album just fit in perfectly. Especially the bell sounds in "People," and the overripe cabaret stuff on "Traume."

Hood 'Cold Music'?

echoinggrove (echoinggrove), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

crud. that was 'Cold House'. there is something drizzly and postnasal drippy about it, but i must have been thinking of Aim's 'Cold Water Music'.

how about Simon Fisher Turner's 'Revox Vol. 1'?

echoinggrove (echoinggrove), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

strangely, i once tried to convince a friend that there was a vague link or shared aesthetic between hood's cold house and aim's cold water music - i don't remember it being sonics, probably a sense of place (outskirts of leeds and lake district, respectively) and a fondness for the outdoors. it might even have been vaguer than that.

the only time i ever listen to spiritualised is when i have a cold (and have taken 4flu).

Autechre's Amber is THE album to listen to if you have a cold, flu, or pretty much any similar sickness, especially if you're on medicine that makes you spaced out. It's a soundtrack to inner body wars. The white blood cells love it, trust me.

An excellent description! (And choice.)
To which I would add Miles' Jack Johnson and Neil Young's Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. (Or Decade, better still.)
