Singles looking around half black. Anyone have that all-black top ten from a couple years ago? I know "Shake Ya Tailfeather" was on it.

Gavin, Monday, 27 June 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

But the "best" parts of Stefani's album are from black producers.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I know it takes all colors to get that CD in the digiwrap, thanks. Just talking about the faces pushing the units. Incidentally, I think the Gwen album sucks.

Gavin, Monday, 27 June 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Curses! That meddling Gavin has uncovered our global pop music conspiracy to disenfranchise the black man from his rightful place on the pop charts!

License to Illuminati (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

Honkytonk University
That can't seriously be an album title?!

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm jus' sayin', is all.

Gavin, Monday, 27 June 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Dude, SHOCK 'N' Y'ALL

Gavin, Monday, 27 June 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

What's so weird about Honkytonk U?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

ESPECIALLY coming from Toby Keith?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

His next album is going to be called Cousin-Fucking Crackers Anonymous.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Last time I checked, "honkytonl" wasn't an offensive term. Is it a stupid term? Hugely. But it's not "hatespeech" or anything.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

honkytonkk

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

UGH!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

DonkeyKongk

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

I didn't say I thought it was offensive. I just thought it was too inane to be true. Then again, I did forget it was Toby Keith.

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

I like the name Honkytonk University.

It's not as good as Garth's "American Honky Tonk Bar Association" but it's still cool.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

wtf y'all

kitty wells (lovebug starski), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I didn't say the current album title was offensive! I was just offering the next album title.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

If he named it Donkey Kong University, that would be a quadrillion times cooler.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

actually H.T.U. is an assinine title even by country standards

hank thompson (lovebug starski), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Trace Adkins has a song on his new album called "Honkytonk Badonkadonk"!

miccio (miccio), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Country has standards?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

(hahaha Alex, "honkytonKKK"!)

(xpost: OMG Anthony!)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Do you think if I have an album I can name it Ghetto Stoop School? That'd be...something.

Candicissima (candicissima), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Turn it up some
Alright boys, this is her favorite song
You know that right
So, if we play it good and loud
She might get up and dance again
Ooh, she put her beer down
Here she comes
Here she comes
Left left left right left
Whoo

Husslers shootin' eightball
Throwin' darts at the wall
Feelin' damn near 10 ft. tall
Here she comes, Lord help us all
Ol' T.W.'s girlfriend done slapped him outta his chair
Poor ole boy, it ain't his fault
It's so hard not to stare
At that honky tonk badonkadonk
Keepin' perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on
That honky tonk badonkadonk
(Aww son)

Now Honey, you can't blame her
For what her mama gave her
It ain't right to hate her
For workin' that money-maker
Band shuts down at two
But we're hangin' out till three
We hate to see her go
But love to watch her leave
With that honky tonk badonkadonk
Keepin' perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on
With that honky tonk badonkadonk
(Ooh, that's what I'm talkin' bout right there, honey)

We don't care bout the drinkin'
Barely listen to the band
Our hands, they start a shakin'
When she gets the urge to dance
Drivin' everybody crazy
You think you fell in love
Boys, you better keep your distance
You can look but you can't touch
That honkey tonk badonkadonk
Keepin' perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on
That honky tonk badonkadonk

That honky tonk badonkadonk
Yeah, that honky tonk badonkadonk

(That's it, right there boys, that's why we do what we do
It ain't for the money, it ain't for the glory, it ain't for the free whiskey
It's for the badonkadonk)

miccio (miccio), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

Cousin-Fucking Crackers Anonymous made me laugh OL

Donkey Kong University is more "true to life" no doubt

conway twitty (lovebug starski), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

That Top Ten is pretty diverse! British piano-postpunk vanilla, American DOUBLE ALBUM post-grunge/proto-emo vanilla, the Backstreet Boys going from BoyzIImen to Evanescence, Mariah Carey flippin' between hip-hop collabos and torch songs, The Black Eyed Peas being some kind of multiculti romper room with James Brown on it, Fat Joe being a big hispanic blowhard, Toby Keith being a big honkytonk blowhard who used to play for the CFL, Shakira doing an album in several languages EXCEPT english, Gwen Stefani collaborating with anyone and everything, and an Armenian bizonkers metal combo.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Strikes me as pretty fuckin' melting pot

miccio (miccio), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

OH MY GOD

In other words, WHITE.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

and an Armenian bizonkers metal combo

If only they lived up to that oh-so-promising description.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

And only like 2 good songs in the whole bunch!

Gavin, Monday, 27 June 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

Wait, did the Ying Yang Twins album come out last week or is it out tomorrow?

If only they lived up to that oh-so-promising description.

Have you heard anything off of the new one, Alex? They've completely lost their minds.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

You can't pick and choose in this world of diversity

x-post

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 27 June 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I wish SoaD would go full-out grindcore.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 27 June 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Why does Trace repeatedly suggest one "slap your grandma"?

miccio (miccio), Monday, 27 June 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

it's been kind of a big story in the charts the last few months that all these rock albums have posted big debuts, albeit mostly 90's alt-rock acts (with the exception of Coldplay and System). there was a 4 or 5-week streak where there was a new rock album at #1 every week, until Mariah got back on top.
