WHO IS BUYING RECORDS BY THE COOPER TEMPLE CLAUSE?
― Tom, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Have you people noticed those kids on the BACKWARD skiis these days?
Amazing! They do jumps and land backwards - the back of the skiis
are now upturned to allow this. Geez. Have you seen this?

Ah the HTML has been arsed up -
here is where you will find this week's musings.

― mark s, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
The world is too concerned with the future of Hear'Say to bother with
releasing records!
― jel, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
What on earth does Mr Sinker plan to do with 50 copies of every
single in the top 50?
More to the point, how does he manage it? I thought he was pore with
no job ect.
Oh hang on, I get it - he does a fake Darius ID signature on the back
of the other 49 copies of each and then flogs them to MVE for 5 times
their face value.
― Terry Shannon, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Nobody ever got rich out of selling records to MVE.
― Tom, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
"with no job": i haf a job starry terry, but i am not well paid viz i cannot afford 100 copies of etc ect tec tce cte cet
what i do wiv vese is i affirm the true chart placings as determined by science and popular will
― mark s, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Then in that case you should serve the cause of nobility and buy 50
MIMEO CDs a week so that they'd get to Number One and Keith Rowe
wouldn't have to keep falling off logs in the Central African
Republic.
(I thought KR's piece in the Wire this month was terrific but
couldn't quite get the Blair Witch spectre out of my mind - "fucking
Westbrook threw the map away in 1965! It's the SAME LOG! JOSH!" tce
ect tttcet)

WHO IS BUYING RECORDS BY JIMMY EAT WORLD?
i don't know what to call them, but in less than two weeks i will be
surrounded by them. I AM FILLED WITH THE FEAR.
― jess, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
This irrational fear of guitars and chain wallets really should
stop. Like, NOW.
― David Raposa, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
WHO IS BUYING RECORDS BY THE MULL HISTORICAL SOCIETY? Hey yeah
Teenage Fanclub play a pub's acoustic 'open mic' night FANTASTIC IDEA
LETS PUT IT IN THE CHARTS.
― Tom, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
I kwite like that Jimmy Eat World single and Mull Historical Society
(haven't heard the current MHS single thought). Though not Cooper
Temple. I find it paradoxxxical that pop ideologues can complain
about the WRONG TYPE of pop being in the chart, when - as we all
know - the chart is the true representation of popular will etc etc.
It seems to me knee-jerk anti-indie snobbery, the straw man
of "indie" being a rather tired rhetorical trope on ILx. As soon as
Jimmy Eat World go top 20 they are just as much a pop band as SClub.
― Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Believe me Edna is it sheer coincidence that these three records are
all indie and all not liked by me (honest!). Of course it's proper
pop and on a macro level diversity of charts = better charts even
when the individual records are rubbish. Pop-Eye though has always
been about thinking all but 5 records in the Top 40 are dreadful.
WHO IS BUYING RECORDS BY THE HERMES HOUSE BAND??
― Tom, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
(See also repeated pot-banging by me on forum about Strokes being
fantastic pop.)
― Tom, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Of course if I had been doing last weeks Pop-Eye then I would have
told all and sundry what a fantastic record the P.O.D. is. Hoipefully
I'll get a chance to say nice things about Movies by Alien Ant Farm
too (very good hook). But both Jimmy Eat World and CTC failed to
imprint on my brain. Nowhere do I say I dislike the MHS record
(though its lyrics are poo), but I don't think it is the footur of
Pop.
― Pete, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Pete, P.O.D. are *Christian rock*.
To answer Tom's four questions:
a) people I'm glad I don't know
b) ditto
c) "eccentrics"
d) people in the eurozone, mainly.
I quite like the fact that there are so many climbers, mainly for
nostalgic reasons. "Gotta Get Thru This" deserves to have held on as
long as it has.
― Robin Carmody, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
(POD = the c.s.lewis of rock?)
― mark s, Monday, 4 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
People who are buying Jimmy Eat World are mostly college radio types
who think they're keeping it indie or something but are really just
boring twats.
By the way, the video for that single is the most fucking annoying
thing ever. Yeah, it's rough being a teenager, having image problems
and insecurities and stuff--let's make a video full of shirtless
studs and lingeried wank fodder slobbing all over each other at a
pool party! That's okay though man because they're showing how
SHALLOW it all is. Fuck Jimmy Eat World and their lifeless music.
― Clarke B., Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Oh and Alien Ant Farm are utterly worthless too. My little sister's
generation's very own Ugly Kid Joe.
― Clarke B., Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
I know P.O.D. are Christian Rock. Is this any reason for me to
dislike the pop song they have made?
― Pete, Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Robin - Daniel Bedroomeyes is Christian Garage surely?
― Tom, Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
And don't tell me that most R'n'B at the moment is completely devoid
of a Christian element - every bloody album appears to have a gospel
medley on it.
― Pete, Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
wow, i never made the ugly kid joe/alien ant farm connection, but
it's spot on. i may have to like them now.
and pete is right, anyone who hates a rock song merely cuz its about
the lord jesus but who listens to arr n bee of the same is just being
willful. good thing pod and creed suck in that case.
― jess, Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Tom, actually "Gotta Get Thru This" is about a GURLFRIEND.
Thank fucking god too.
― Tim, Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
Yeah but he's always trapping on about God in interviews.
Anyway "Alive" is about the first orange juice of the morning, what's
all this 'Christian' rubbish?
― Tom, Tuesday, 5 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
i won't believe the alien ant farm/ugly kid joe connection until aaf covers
'sweet leaf' themselves
