Or the collaboration between Sir Paul McCartney and the Freelance Hellraiser. Has anybody heard it? Does it reek of desperation, or can he cut it with the mashup brigade?

Is this like X-Sample aka Eric Clapton, or am I misunderstadning?

This might explain a bit..

TWIN FREAKS eponymous debut album is released through Parlophone Records on the 13th of June. TWIN FREAKS is a collection of some of Paul McCartney’s best-loved classics alongside some hidden gems from music’s most envied back catalogue.

TWIN FREAKS features the studio wizardry of DJ and producer The Freelance Hellraiser, best known for his unforgettable mash-up the 2002 bootleg ‘A Stroke Of Genius’. Hellraiser has since become one of the most sought after remixers and last year he came to the attention of music legend Paul McCartney.

In the summer of 2004 The Freelance Hellraiser joined Paul McCartney’s 14 date European stadium tour, opening each show with a twenty-five minute set of remixed McCartney tunes, which culminated in the famous headline performance at Glastonbury. At the time The Freelance Hellraiser said, “There is such an amazing album to be made of some of Paul’s unknown tracks from the late Seventies and early Eighties. He was doing some utterly cool stuff then that the young audience would lap up now".

Causing quite a stir on the underground club scene throughout the UK TWIN FREAKS has already received airplay on Radio One’s prestigious show The Blue Room as well as support from Zane Low, Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and XFM. The album is packed with dance-floor epics that span Paul McCartney’s illustrious career. From his solo debut album McCartney (‘Maybe I’m Amazed’) through to 2003’s Driving Rain (‘Rinse The Raindrops’) and including electro-pop rediscovered classics such as ‘Temporary Secretary’ from the McCartney 2 album. TWIN FREAKS is an alternative take on the greatest back catalogue in music.

‘Temporary Secretary’

I'd hear Temporary Secretary on the dance floor weekly for a while about a year ago.

Did anyone ever hear this? I've finally tracked down a couple of MP3s and I have to say I'm surprised at how decent it is considering Macca's previous history with these remix collaborations. The Freelance Hellraiser guy does a pretty good job at mashup-style stitching things together (the opening of "Oo You" acting as a fill in "Long Haired Lady" for example) as well as just gutting the track and starting over. If anyone remembers the interminable Steve Miller "your dad and his friends jamming in the garage" track "Really Love You," this takes that and manages to make it actually rock in some sense.

Unfortunately it seems to only be available as a 2xLP in bloody England, which means it's something like $33 BEFORE shipping to the States. Toss that one on the Christmas list I guess...

i would like to hear this, i have to say.

just dont get the reason why its vinyl only, how bloody annoying, though ebay seems to advise that there are cd copies from some far away euro countries - or are these bootlegs perhaps ?
i have yet to actually see a copy anywhere cd/vinyl ..

any updates/advise as to whether worth the effort to track this down would be kinda nice .. or, are mashups sooo over now ?

I finally succeeded in Soulseeking the whole thing. It's... PRETTY good. It's not great or worth the price of import 2XLP, IMO. Too many of them just lock into a groove or don't change up for way too long, and the "When you were youunng" sample on "Live and Let Die" just grates. But: some of it is really fun, especially if you're a die-hard Macca fan. Not sure how timely or convincing it is as actual dance music, someone more versed in the DJ world would have to chime in on that. But it definitely beats "P.S. Love Me Do"...

I listen to this far more frequently than I probably should. Fantastic.

I do love this album.. I had a CD promo (totally legit copy), sold it on e-bay, it paid for the family holiday in Turkey, I kid not. (OK, the all-inclusive hotel, not the flight, but still..)

Notwithstanding that, I think it's his best album for a long time, and love it still..

Mark G, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 08:54 (seventeen years ago)

Oh fuck, it's not a stunning return to form is it?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 09:03 (seventeen years ago)

um, no it's someone else's good handwroter.
