It reminds me a little of Luomo/Dubtribe/Parrish. WHAT IS IT???

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

IT's gotta be Round Two - New Day on the Round one to Round Five disc by von Oswald and Ernestus.

Jena (JenaP), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Sounds plausible...damn, is Discogs down for everyone else?

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Ernestus?

!!!!

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

They went on to become Basic Channel, the two.

Because this track is...amazing!

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

yes really!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

although i have no idea that that's the track on the mix, i'm sure Jena is correct.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Jena is never wrong. Jed is never wrong.

I may have to order this record before I get my next paycheck!

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Is it impossible to find?

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Boomkat has copies, but nothing on any US sites. America is rubbish!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

you have to get it - it's the best break up song ever. i played it about 1000 times after the break up of a particualrly painful relationship. it healed me!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Round Three > Round One > Round Four > Round Five >>>>>> Round Two

You're on crack. Round Two is my favorite song ever though.

tylero (tylero), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

adam, does the track you're talking about have a male vocal that goes "shout about it/ shout about it/ where did we go wrong, tell me/ for the love that we have is so strong"? because i can send you that track.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

from memory:

hurt by someone
heard is feeling bad
need a love
need a love
the love that we had
don't know where do I begin
in the state that I'm in
don't make me suffer
don't make me suffer
for suffering

feel like a twenty for hour sleep
ease my soul you know love is deep
i love you, you know this is true
in my heart, i want your love for all time

makes me want to shout about it
shout about it
where did we go wrong tell me,
for the love that we had was so strong

open your eyes, and you will see
that this was meant to be
there ain't nothing standing in our way
we got a new day

there is another part I'm missing in there but like I said, that's from memory.

tylero (tylero), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

oh, could someone please yousendit this? i need to hear.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Thursday, 30 June 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

jed, could you yousendit - my copy is destroyed. thanks.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 30 June 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

Incidentally, I've always wanted to start a thread on this, but does anyone else think that the line "don't make me suffer, don't make me suffer, in this suffering" is about as far off the mark that Ernestus and von Oswald have ever gotten, because even if it is, that's still pretty damn close to perfect.

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 30 June 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

oh crap, Jed was already on that, sorry.

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 30 June 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

:) cool.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 30 June 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

thanks. wow! the cd mastering really changes the sound of the song - it's so much clearer. i'm so used to the murky vinyl mastering it'll take me a while to get used to this version.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 30 June 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

I've always loved the ambiguity of the lyrics to this one. Is the relationship over and the singer is (naively) pining for the return of his ex-lover? does the ex-lover come back at the end? (we've got a new day) I can't tell if it's totally sad or sad and then uplifiting, but I think it pretty much matches up 100% with my self deluded feelings after being uncerimoniusly dumped :(.

tylero (tylero), Thursday, 30 June 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

Also, who is the vocalist on the tune? I bet he is the one who wrote the lyrics. In fact I bet all the lyrics on all of the varied Ernestus / von Oswald stuff is written by the vocalists. No solid info to back that up, of course, just a feeling.

tylero (tylero), Thursday, 30 June 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

The credits say: Round Two feat. Andy Caine, he also sang on the marvelous Round One track I'm Your Brother, and I don't think they ever worked with him after that.

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 30 June 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

i've always thought it was that the relationship was over, he's pining and gets his lover back in the end too. at least that's what i thought when i was going through a break up. incidentally, i got them back too (but only briefly).

the singer is a guy called andy caine and i would swear too that he wrote the words. i don't think ernestus or von oswald do words. moritz had a near chart hit circa 1989 with 'movin' by marathon. his lyric - 'just keep movin', just keep groovin' ad infinitum. it's actually a great record but lyrics surely aren't his forte.

Oh wow, I didn't read all this other stuff that happened after I left the thread. Yes, that IS the song and I have ordered the CD (found it for $20!!! from Other Music).

Thanks, everyone!

Baby BobO (nordicskilla), Friday, 1 July 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

for some reason i hadnt even registered the "feel like a 24 hour sleep" part of this thread title and therefore kept asking you if it was this track when, in fact, it was pretty obvious it was.

most of the rest of this CD is sung by Tikiman and as a result, sounds pretty different to this track. FWIW i'll take the Tikiman tracks even over this one, great as it is. Tikiman has one of my favourite voices ever though, so i'm biased.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 1 July 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

No, I think I agree with you! The Rhythm & Sound/Tikiman thing is next on my list.

Mayer played this at the Total 6 after party, coincidentally - along with "Lovelee Dae," which pretty much made for a perfect morning right there.
