what one person estimates as 32,000 45s from all eras, all genres for sale. The owner is the guy who produced "Morse Code of Love" by the Capris. He says you'll need a moving truck to haul them all out.

Q: Hi, do you know if you have any Skrewdriver records in there, and if yes could you sell separately? Thanks
Jun-29-05
A: I won't sell anything separately and I doubt that I have any Skrewdriver records.

credit where credit is due: first seen on Waxy.org: Links

patita (patita), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Totally stunning.

But why, oh why, would he sell that?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

I saw that the other nite on ebay. it made me drool. and he lives where my parents live! same town. maybe they could spot me 6 or 7 grand and haul a truck to my island hideaway.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I feel bad for the guy...he obviously has a lot of attachment to much of this collection, and he's not getting anywhere NEAR the amount that he should for it. $5000 is worth maybe 1/8 of this collection. If I were him I'd take the whole thing off and try my luck somewhere else.

Christian, Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

but he used to sell records, no? isn't it just inventory?

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

he used to sell from an ad, not through a storefront.

I did think it was odd that he'd do this on ebay and not through the dealer connections he has. His insistence on downplaying the value is also kind of strange.

anyone else wonder what his comic book collection must be like?

patita (patita), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

xxpost
Still a few days to go, it'll go up in price several thousand dollars in the last few hours.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

i wanna know why he won't throw in his LPs too. Get rid of it all in one shot.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

This thing is not going to go for only $5000.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

Wow. Wow wow. We should pool our money.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

holy crap. i was about to bid $12,500 but then I remembered that my record player's broken.

by the way, -- in the "member questions" section some guy asked him if he has any Skrewdriver 45's in the lot, and would he be willing to sell him those separately.

His answer--"I won't sell anything separately and I doubt that I have any Skrewdriver records." for some reason I laughed out loud at his response.

jeremiah (jeremiah), Thursday, 30 June 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

Oh my word. Those are scary pictures!

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 30 June 2005 07:03 (twenty years ago)

"Seller's return policy: EVERYTHING I SELL COMES WITH A COMPLETE MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. IF NOT DELIGHTED, ALL YOUR MONEY COMES BACK, INCLUDING ALL POSTAGE CHARGES."

Damnit. There's a scratch on that Motown single. Sigh... *quits job and drives all that shit back to seller*

Gerard (Gerard), Thursday, 30 June 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

if you bought these and listened to them non stop for 12 hours a day it would take about 411 days to get to the end (if you estimate 4mins as the average length of a side)(which is prob too much)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 30 June 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

308 days if you calculated at 3 mins per side.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 30 June 2005 07:57 (twenty years ago)

Those pictures made me wonder if they ever worked out what to do with all of John Peel's records.

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 30 June 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

John Peel was in tralks to donate them all to the audio dept. of the British Library, but he died before it was all signed and sealed,

but they will probably go there anyway.

or be the worlds greatest ebay lot.

danny boy, Thursday, 30 June 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

Q: This is very interesting but I am wondering if you are married and what does your wife or husband say aboaut this collection.

A: My wife has been wanting me to do this for years. She has no sympathy for my remorse.

john'n'chicago, Thursday, 30 June 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

I just noticed where it is... hell, I'll be 20 minutes down the road next week. this is insane! the price is still at $5200. I'll bet that transporting/storing them is the major impediment.

patita (patita), Thursday, 30 June 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

that is very close to where i live..i may have to de a re-con this afternoon...xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Friday, 1 July 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Someone is going to have a massive pile of absolute garbage on their hands. After they sell off all of the good ones I'd be curious to see what they're going to do with the other 30,000!

walter kranz (walterkranz), Friday, 1 July 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm really not sure whether to show this to my gf on the basis that it might make her realise that shifting my collection's going to be a walk in the park by comparison, or whether to keep her well away from it on the basis that it might put all sorts of unspeakably evil ideas into her head....

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 July 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

wow, not even 10 grand. what a haul. there was a story on this in today's new york times. the easiest thing to do would be to sell them in lots of a 100 on ebay and stick one good record in every lot. that way people would bid and help you get rid of the crap. i'm jealous though. i would love to dig thru all those boxes. your eyes would glaze over after the 50th country box though.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 3 July 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

I expected it to go for about 12-15 grand. No doubt his attempts to dampen people's enthusiasm worked only too well.
