sad that people like kirchin, bill fay, simon finn etc. have to wait 30 years for their talents to be recognised. and what did the people want 30 years ago? hmmm...elton john, michael jackson, tony christie, nancy sinatra, shirley bassey...same old same old...

Very sad that he wasn't accepted far earlier; one would have at least expected his film scores to generate a good deal of interest. I indeed first learned of his music through watching "The Mutations" - some of which was the "Worlds Within Worlds" material. And I also recall "The Abominable Dr Phibes" having a fine - if hardly as out-of-place and breathtaking as that of "The Mutations" - score. I suspect his music for "The Shuttered Room" to be rather closer to "Abstractions...", being rather lyrical and not yet as wild as it would become.

Finally watched I Start Counting on Youtube after digging the soundtrack (not least the title song--quite possibly the best song of all time, btw) for some years. I really should try harder to hear more of his soundtrack work in context...
