Incredibly lazy, but sometimes intriguingly creative.

Classic and dud. Since I've done that myself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 June 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

Peelander-Z sounds like the Beethoven of the 1940s on roofies, but with more angular guitars.

As long as the correct illicit drug is cited (i.e., "crack" is never the right answer) it can be useful in moderation.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Thursday, 30 June 2005 04:13 (twenty years ago)

In other words, the last two words of the sentence should always be "on WEED."

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 30 June 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

95% of the time it's acid. Why is that?

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Thursday, 30 June 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

95% of the time it's acid. Why is that?

It's one of the few drugs music journalists can afford.

(xpost)

That's a good question. Another big one is some kind of sleeping pill, anti-anxiety agent, etc. I suspect that one's popular just because it's really simple to nail down: "Like Band X except slower/chiller/mellower = Like Band X on Xanax"

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 30 June 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

dud, since I have done this myself and hate myself in the morning when I do.

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Thursday, 30 June 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

creativity only now possible if drug = prescription rather than illicit

viz: "x sounds like y on co-proxamol"

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 30 June 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

(actually co-proxamol is now illicit so as you were)

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 30 June 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Classic and dud. Since I've done that myself.
-- Ned Raggett

but what knowledge did you draw on to make the comparison - as I thought you are a total abstainer?

"Songwriter X sounds like Bob Dylan on Claratin"

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 30 June 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

"Pete Doherty sounds like Jaz Coleman on anusol"

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 30 June 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

mark s OTM. I am fond of describing Dido as sounding like Dido on a heavy dose of non-specific tranquilisers.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 30 June 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

this thread is on CRACK

harshaw (jube), Thursday, 30 June 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

I agree with the lazy assesment. Kind of like ending a sentence in which you intended to make a difficult/controversial point with "You know what I'm saying?"

The English language has A LOT of words. Use them accordingly.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 30 June 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

without hesitation, deviation or repetition

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 30 June 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

LayZ ... and condescending, in fact.

Limp Bizkit is like Anthrax on Preparation H

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 30 June 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Quaaludes is a common Z in this equation in reviews. I guess because it rolls off the tongue nicely...

PB, Thursday, 30 June 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

i remember visiting bourbon street in new orleans, friggin years and years ago, and i started talking to these dudes from Athens, GA who were playing all this weird shit on the sidewalk. they were like "yeah, we're a bunch of bands and we've got a commune in athens. you should come live there." and i was like "well, what's everyone's music like?" and the guy responded by saying "well, we're all like Pink Floyd on acid." To which i said "pink floyd already were on acid"... blah blah blah

anyhow, turns out the ppl i was talking to were from the newly emerging Elephant 6 collective.
