T/S - Rabbit of Seville v. What's Opera, Doc (aka "Kill the Wabbit")

I am terribly torn...there are so many funny things about both of these. The running up and down the stairs in "Rabbit", Brunhilde's GIGANTIC horse in "Opera". Why can't it be Saturday morning 20 years ago?

Anyway...I am interested to hear your thoughts.

When cartoons approach high art, they break out the oscars in appreciation!

Every weekend on Boomerang, they've had "June Bugs" which is 48 hours of solid Bugs Bunny cartoons. I filled two 6 hour tapes. But I think you missed it because tomorrow is July, right?

Stoner, my mother-in-law gave me the five disc Looney Toons DVD set for Christmas last year. I have ample ammo for my growing adulthood.

They cannot be separated out. That said, my absolute favorite moment in the two probably has to be the bit when the flowers appear on Elmer's head in Seville.

"The Earth, she is a-round!"
"The Earth, she is a-flat!"

A DIFFERENT CARTOON, I must note.

More random quotes having nothing to do with the thread:

My what an interesting monster.

P32 Space Modulator.

That low-down good-for-nothin' hare must die.
HAIR! DYE! That's a joke son, don't ya get it?!

Stoner Guy, Thursday, 30 June 2005 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Done! My agenda is set for my day off tomorrow! I shall watch...CARTOONS!

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 30 June 2005 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

DAINTILY!

Rabbit of Seville wins by a hare.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 30 June 2005 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yosemite Sam!

It's funny that only just recently have they stopped showing Speedy Gonzales cartoons.

At the deli downstairs the spanish-speaking guys say "Andele, andele" to each other. Are they just making a joke about the cartoon? On their breaks I see them sitting on the plastic chairs outside with ther caps pulled down in front of their eyes and resting, too!

Rabbit of Seville in a landslide.

What's Opera is too goth.

Wagner is an emo wuss.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I much prefer the Rossini to the Wagner.

wmlynch (wlynch), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Speah and magic hewmut!!

I own both of these (part of a court ordered religious settlement) and how any of you unwashed heathens could pick between them is beyond me.

Oh yes. I'm geek enough to have fantasized about THIS VERY THREAD's eventual existence but too lazy too have created it myself! Anyway, I consider "What's Opera Doc" one of the great overrated Chuck Jones cartoons: great visuals, but I need LAFFS in my toons, and (except maybe to grim Teutonic Wagner fans & etc.) just doesn't deliver 'em. Also absent: TNT, Figaro Fertilizer, "Lotsa lather lotsa soap/Please hold still don't be a dope!", shotgun one-upmanship and a funnier wedding - with Elmer as the bride for a change. Plus, "...Seville" is just plain more enjoyable to LISTEN to, what with Wagner's music being "better than it sounds" and all.

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, tho, I'd probably take that OTHER Bugs/opera matchup over either of those two! Don't know the title offhand - it's the one with the amazingly fat tenor Giovanni Jones, and Bugs disguised as "Leopold" torturing him.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 30 June 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

That one is brilliant, least of all for the song Bugs is singing at the beginning of it.
"What do they do on a rainy night in..."

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 30 June 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah, yes, that one is insanely great.

"L...L...LEOPOLD!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 June 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

When his face turns all the different colors including plaid.
