Problems with iTunes.

The main problem is that now i can no longer import music into itunes at the same time as listening to music. Not just music i'm running through itunes, but any music/sounds playing at the same time as burning tracks. Also, with only 7500 songs and 30GB of files in itnues on a relatively high spec machine (250GB hard drive and a 3GB processor), it seems to run remarkably sluggish. I put this down to needing a RAM upgrade, but now i have 1024MB RAM and the problem remains.

Anyone had the same problems? I searched older threads but people seemed to find itunes sluggish running with 30,000 odd songs.

Any help much appreciated.

did you upgrade your version of itunes recently?

Yes i upgraded to the latest version yesterday. :-S

dmun drive-in (dmun), Friday, 1 July 2005 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

Also i forgot to mention, when importing tracks they now burn at 10x speed whereas when i had a few thousand less songs in there they burned at 20x speed.

man, I wish I could help, but I can't even get my iPod icon to show up on my iTunes menu anymore!

you need to go into iTunes prefs and make sure your burning prefs are the same as they were before the upgrade. sometimes they default to standard.

I'm still trying to figure out how and/or why iTunes deleted Radiohead, Tricky, M83, Ricardo Villalobos, and half of Interpol's Antics from my iPod.

I have a 40G iPod and only 33.4G of music in iTunes, so the music wasn't booted for lack of space.

Why such a random grouping? No relation alphabetically... Or genre-wise... Any ideas?

You clearly have an ipod with bad taste. If mine deleted Interpol, M83 and Radiohead it would be thrown in the river quick sharp.

Ha, you guys have bad taste!

man, I wish I could help, but I can't even get my iPod icon to show up on my iTunes menu anymore!

that might have to do with the dock connector/firewire cable thingy. i had the same problem and when i got a replacement everything worked fine.

are you updating your ipod manually (i.e. checking off certain files/playlists) or does it just search for new tracks on its own?

Ha - my itunes was slowly killing off tracks by Wire and Liliput, among others. But then I downloaded the latest version and it stopped.

two years pass...

Hay guys.

For some reason I can't import a couple new folders. I'll do "import," it'll look like it's processing and importing it, then once the process is complete they're not there.

Ideas?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

Not sure what's going on there.

I'm not very happy with the latest version of itunes. When importing, it always goes back to the desktop instead of the last folder I was importing from. It's very annoying.

I don't like the way the latest version of iTunes (10.1.2.17) displays free and used iPod space. in earlier versions you'd be able to see that you had, for instance, 23.1 MB of free space. but now the readout doesn't get any more precise than "FREE: 0.02 GB", which, in the absence of additional significant digits, suggests that you have more than 15 MB but less than 25 MB free.

actually it isn't even as straightforward as that. it says now that my iPod has 0.02 GB of free space, yet when I try to fill it with about 12 MB worth of MP3's, a dialog box tells me there isn't enough space to copy all of them. what's up with that?

iTunes is the worst computer application of all time.

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 19 February 2011 22:18 (fourteen years ago)

bold statement, bro.

Yes, that would be Norton. :) But a contender it is. :)

one year passes...

okay, I don't know if I've asked this before, but I want a goddamn answer

let's say I import something into iTunes but I don't like the way it's tagged or whatever. like it's a two disc set and I want to just make it one "album", whatever it is, I just re-tag everything. Then, a couple days later, I find that iTunes has decided to revert the tags back to what they were, sometimes on all the tracks, sometimes on just a couple (huh?). If they're on my iPod, they won't play (it just cycles through them all, as though they're less than a second long). I have to hit "change ID3 tags" on them to fix it, which I discovered totally randomly as I didn't know what to do. And this has been going on for YEARS. Like, since 2005. I've downloaded every update, why can't it just leave my files alone? Does anyone else get this??

Anyone else have trouble with the radio tuner in ITunes? It like goes into buffering mode within five minutes, without fail....

erm i am locked out of my own itunes account because apparently there's been suspicious activity?

i can't even authenticate myself, you get the options of email verification (but nothing is showing up in my inbox when i choose this) or security questions (i got my own bloody answers wrong and have no idea what i put in the first place)

lex pretend, i have the same problem...email verifications haven't shown up for a long time for me either and when i am sure i know my security answers, i get them wrong too

I wrote mine down for that reason. stupidest bloody security implementation from a company which prides itself on not doing really really incredibly stupid things.

My iPhone still isn't displaying all the artists on there. Load a crap

New version of iTunes was kind enough to rearrange the artists on my iPod so that they are now sorted alphabetically by first name. Sigh...

on shuffle in itunes 11 -- is there a way to get the song information and cover art to correspond to the song that's playing? it stays on whatever the first song was in the shuffle

reggie (qualmsley), Monday, 8 April 2013 14:00 (twelve years ago)

I've seen it get stuck like that- it usually is supposed to change to correspond to the song playing. Try deselecting that first track I presume you clicked on to start? See if it changes then.

Evan, Monday, 8 April 2013 14:31 (twelve years ago)

thanks but that didn't help. i miss cover flow! stupid apple

reggie (qualmsley), Monday, 8 April 2013 14:50 (twelve years ago)

Hmmmm... I'd doubt they'd remove that feature. I'll try to look into it more for you.

that was you not your ipod. the ipod just takes the order you have set itunes to. so if you sort (everythig or just one playlist) by artist in itunes, on the ipod it is also ordered by artist. the order of every playlist can be controled individually like this. i have for example playlists for the most frequent artists ordered by song title instead album or year or whatever.

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 8 April 2013 20:16 (twelve years ago)
