Currently loving 'Can't Stop' from the new Missy. Following loves for Amerie and Beyonce.

What else is worth checking out? Can we overrate him?

Totally overrated.

tallglassofmilk, Monday, 4 July 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

He might be a little 'one trick'. But he does that trick so well.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Monday, 4 July 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

s: Kelly Rowland, 'Can't Nobody'

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 4 July 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

i dont like the missy song that much but the other two are undeniably classic. I'd agree he's a one trick pony though however those are the only three tracks Ive heard.

jmeister (jmeister), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, no. Amerie's "Why Don't We Fall In Love" and "Talkin' To Me" prove he's at least a two-trick pony.

Search:

Amerie - Why Don't We Fall In Love (Richcraft Remix)
Amerie - Need You Tonight

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 04:28 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know which dc go-go bands he and Amerie used to be in?

steve-k, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

ameries first album is great. hes turning out to be a signature-sound-milker though.

ppp, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

Amerie's second album is pretty great too. I think "one trick pony" is actually sort of inaccurate here, or not very helpful anyway - certainly he has a distinctive style but it doesn't really seem drained of creativity yet. It's an interesting + unique take on the Kanye/JBlaze axis.

deej.., Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty addicted to his productions at the moment. Any list of everything he's produced at all?

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

If you just listen to "Crazy In Love" and "One Thing" then yeah he may sound like he just has "one trick" but the Amerie albums show a lot of production diversity. Unless "classy R&B with neat beats" is a "trick".

Also there's anomalies like "Can't Nobody" and "Soldier".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

I think he's working now with Christina Aguilera. I believe he's a Howard U music grad...

"It's co-writing with people that I would never be able to play with," Harrison says of his penchant for sampling. "You're not just sampling the instrument, you're sampling the arguments they had in the studio, you're sampling the temperature in the room, you're sampling the engineer's attitude, you're sampling the coke they snorted. Those are conditions that will never be re-created, and I get to use them for my records."

That article was written by the lead singer of Q and Not U!

He's been doing freelance writing for the Post for awhile--he was also a copy aide there.

I feel we're like Timbaland and Aaliyah.

i want to believe this pretty badly, but eh. maybe i'm getting old. i like Touch a lot, though. and "soldier" as well.

"D.C. has to grow up a little more. There are so many talented people out here -- why am I the only one that broke through?" he asks. "There's never been an entertainment label with that kind of validation in D.C. It's a difficult task, but I think it's important, not only for the musical legacy but for the image of this city. D.C. could be so much more hip, so much more sexy."

It will be interesting to see what his new label can do.

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Tuesday, 2 June 2009 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

yes dear.

i know i kinda bugged (as designed) when i first found 'he aint wit me' but, whilst my sympathy for harrison and the bluster & novelty of the track in these modern times abide, i'm not maaaaaad into it really; less so still after flicking thru those somehow subtler-seeming bangers of yore.

'didnt you know' might be one of my faves of the decade actually - 1st ever lupe fiasco appearance woo woo!

r|t|c, Tuesday, 2 June 2009 20:15 (sixteen years ago)

The Rayne's "Didn't You Know" you mean? (yr links'n'embeds won't load for me at work)

Adore that one as well, totally amazing interplay between the groove and Yummy's vocal.

Tim F, Tuesday, 2 June 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

eleven years pass...

Going back through his production discography, so many bangers I hadn't heard. Wonder what he's been up to for the last few years.
