I just heard an intolerably lame and wrong cover of Funkadelic's "Can You Get To That".

Horrendous white-guy-singing-"soulful"-voice: check.
Passionless backing vocals that are "good" because they are "chick singers": check.
Supercompressed, bland mix: check.
Leaving out the integral last falsetto "caaaaaan you get to that" in chorus: check.
Completely extraneous "technical" horn riff thrown in apropos of nothing: check.

I actually kinda would like to NOT know who was responsible for this. For THEIR safety.

is this the song that was recast as being about addition on Sesame St?

Okay, AMG suggests it might be some group called Dancing Dogs? I'll hold them, if you'd like to make with the baseball bat, nick.

The tediousness with which they plowed through the "spend your love on credit" verse is unmatched by anything not related to the field of finance and accounting.

That is the cocksucker, I am sure of it. This is the kind of shit only a "guitarist/composer" would be capable of.

There was a sample on the Barnes & Noble site that was much how you described it. I'm now going to wash my ears out. And get my memory re-programmed.

Seriously though, the amount of dicksuckery that had to go into turning such a gorgeous, poignant bit of fun as "Can You Get To That" into something so hair-raisingly rockist can be described only as MONUFUCKINGMENTAL.

I'm sorry if this is a mean-spirited and pointless thread, but for fuck's sake this was the most offensive thing I've ever heard.

I'm staying as far away from this cover as is humanly possible.

Good idea: Tell 'em to make preparations for the coming separation of their heads from their bodies, and then make 'em reap just what they sow!

(And don't forget to destroy the master tapes.)

The Balancing Act also did a cover of this on their last album, but it doesn't sound anywhere near as horrible as what you describe. In fact, it was pretty decent.

Earlier, on their first EP, I heard what I guess was my first Captain Beefheart song ever. It too was good stuff.
