I don't really know dancehall very well, and I'm trying to explore it. Does anyone have any must-have recommendation? Or a list of some of the all time classics to get a good background. Thanks

Anybody like Bling Dawg?

Gavin, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

I have a bunch of random stuff by him that's mostly very good. He doesn't have an album does he?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

I don't think so... My faves by him are "We Roll" and "Haffi Get Da Girl"... My BABEEZ!

Mr. Vegas is also good... Don't see anything by him listed yet. Try "Kill Them With The No" and "Deport Them" with Sean Paul. Akon has a nice tune over the Fiesta riddim, "Gunshot."

Favorite riddims anyone? I like Gunz Up a lot.

What's everyone like for albums? I have some Cutty Ranks albums that are pretty good; Elephant Man's Good 2 Go is good; I have the Buju album with Champion on it, which is ok. What do you like for Beenie Man? Are any of his greatest hits worth getting, or are the albums good enough? And comps too! I searched through some used copies of Reggae Gold, Dancehall's Biggest Anthems, and Ragga Ragga Ragga from various years, didn't pick anything up though (almost got Reggae Gold 1996!).

I don't have any Beenie Man albums, but the 40 track two disc singles collection is pure fire. The non-hip hop Bounty Killer albums are all great. The last three Capleton albums are all amazing. All four Elephant Man albums are quite good. Both Ward 21 and TOK albums are great. The Vybz album is great. Sizzla has a million records, but Black Woman and Child and Da Real Thing and Rise to the Occassion are all really good (I also have a 2CD collection which is good.) I don't rate any of the Buju LPs, but the 91-95 collection is great. The first disc of the Baby Cham album is great (the second uh not so great.) The Stopper is great as is Lethal Weapon and so is the later one with the remix of "Who Say Me Dun" on it. Terror Fabulous, Spragga Benz, Degree, Lady Saw Cobra all have good albums. Reggae Gold as a series used to be pretty weak, but the last two installments have been quite strong. All of the double disc Biggest Ragga Dancehall Anthems are worthwhile as most of the Ragga Ragga Raggas (this years is weak though.) Conscious Ragga was quite good but it seems to be discontinued as of #3. I don't think Just Ragga exists anymore, but that was good too.
