Latin Pop Song I.D. - Maria? Brujeria?

Heard a great latin-pop/mambo-lite song on the radio this weekend that had lyrics in Spanish. Mi espanol no es bueno, so I couldn't understand much. But the chorus had a repeated line about a woman named Maria who was into Brujeria (witchcraft). Anyone have any idea what I heard? It could be an old standard, for all I know, but googling "Maria" and "Brujeria" turns up a whole chunk of stuff I can't translate. Thanks!

Wasn't the Spanish Eurosvision entry this year called Brujeria?

Could it have been this (or at least a cover of it)? (Will try to upload in a few minutes.)

Tú me hiciste brujería
Me quieres mandar pa' la tumba fría
Tú me hiciste brujería
Bruja, bruja, brujita
Tú me hiciste brujería
Brrrrrr, demonio
Tú me hiciste brujería
Me echaste, no sé qué, en la comida
Tú me hiciste brujería
Siento una cosa fría
Tú me hiciste brujería
Que me va por aquí, se me sube por allá.¡si!
Tú me hiciste brujería
Y vuelve! tú me echaste brujería
Tú me hiciste brujería

Pero que anoche en la cama de una caconía
Tú me hiciste brujería
Que ya no puedo comer, no puedo dormir
Tú me hiciste brujería
Chacal y bruja, marigua, María
Tú me hiciste brujería
Pero que Tony Fernandez todo lo sabía
Tú me hiciste brujería
Me tienes dobla'o echo una porquería
Tú me hiciste brujería
Bruja, bruja, pero vampira, bruja
Tú me hiciste brujería
Tú me hiciste brujería
Oye echa pa' lla, estate quieto
Tú me hiciste brujería

Oh yeah, there was also a remix of this song put out at the beginning of last year. Would have sounded poppier. I can slap that up later if you think this is the correct song.

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

That's the song! But I think it must have been a cover or remix that I heard. But this is awesome, thanks so much!

On a Strict El Cholo Diet (Bent Over at the Arclight), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I will upload the remix, though it's not as good as the original. (I really like that song.)

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

Actually, that's probably one of the better remixes on the 2-CD set they put out. It's done by Baron Lopez who is one of the only DJs to really successfully do salsa remixes without sounding completely ridiculous. Also, it's got Alfredo de la Fe who is a salsa electric violin god.

Wait, there's also a reggaeton remix.

I don't think the yousendit is going to send. I've been waiting forever now. If you are on the hub, we could do it that way, or slsk, but I am not on that very often, so you'd have to let me know. Or if you aren't that interested, that's fine too. It shouldn't be that hard to find a copy of this out in the ether.

Wait, it worked:

The reggaeton one (I may have messed this up by trying to move the file while it was uploading--d'oh!):

Jesus, LaRue, thanks a million... this is tremendous.

Glad I could help figure this out. I thought of the song immediately, but then I thought, nah, why would it happen to be that one (especially since the original song is from 1979). El Gran Combo is one of my favorite salsa bands (and one of the two best salsa bands out of Puerto Rico--not an objective statement I guess, but you'd find a lot of agreement on that).

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

(The rapping on the reggaeton mix are from Yaga & Mackie, not names that mean anything to me, though they do look a little familiar.)

Good lord. I really know nothing about salsa music, but in 1979, I spent my 4th year in life living in Puerto Rico on a Navy base in San Juan. Miles from where this must have been recorded. Excellent! You made my day!

"Yay Boy" would never have become an international hit, without your remix, imo, but you definitely have done a bunch of other good stuff.

(I was/am LaRue. Sorry you only have one big fan on this site, but salsa isn't a big force here.)

This thread reminds me of why I love ilx, on days when I feel like bailing for good (see - actually DON'T see - the Fluxblog insult thread).

This song practically grabs your hips and teaches you how to move them.

El Gran Combo will be playing a free concert on The Parkway, Philadelphia, July 3rd, starting at 4PM, incidentally.
