Fantastic Plastic Machine - King of Pleasure

no tech! (ex machina), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh so predictable, but the opening notes of "Eighties" by Killing Joke immediately makes me sneer deliciously and feel positively omnipotent. Like spinach for Popeye.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

oh no.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

Well, if it's possible for one to feel cool while cleaning out the garage, then Marianne Faithfull's "The Blue Millionaire" has to be the one. I don't ordinarily play a song twice, but today just had to press repeat for the keynoards on this one. For a short while there, things were quite good.

jim wentworth (wench), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, almost anything on the first two Comsat Angels albums.

Ian Riese-Moraine has been xeroxed into a conduit! (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

War - Low rider

Wish I could say something more obscure, but I'd be lying.

The real test for a song that "makes you feel cool" is whether you can play it loud with the windows rolled down. In traffic. Bet you feel real cool now.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 7 July 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

The entire first Cars record. Especially "You're All I've Got Tonight."

No one should take a mess. NO ONE, DAMNIT!

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Papa didn't cuss/

Papa beat the hell outta us - UNH!

Damnit, I LOVE that song.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

First thing I thought of was Soho - "Hot Music" which is kinda jazzy. I think I feel cool because I've known it so long and whenever people first hear it they think it's cool and ask what it is.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 7 July 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

That One Guy (That One Guy), Thursday, 7 July 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

The real test for a song that "makes you feel cool" is whether you can play it loud with the windows rolled down. In traffic. Bet you feel real cool now.

I once saw this one guy who was playing "Careless Whisper" loudly in late-night traffic. He did not appear to be crying/breaking up with someone/gay. Is he cool?

Roz (Roz), Thursday, 7 July 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

billie jean - MJ.

danny boy, Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Don't know how "cool" it makes me feel, but I swear to God, I always play pool a little better if 5:15 by The Who comes on the jukebox. Only that song for some reason.

Baaderonixx le Belge (Fabfunk), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

cool? what is that anyway?

I always feel good when Gilberto Gil's "Aquele Abraçao"'s opening guitar chords start up, that's a great song.

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

shame on you for not saying "Ice Ice Baby", PappaWheelie.

And here I was floggin myself all last night over the fact that I left off 'Cool Night' by Paul Davis (which also belongs in the bad grammar in songs thread).

Gilberto Gil's "Aquele Abraçao" makes believe in magic. Gil is fucking God to me.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I can't, for example, play most hip-hop loud with the windows rolled down without feeling self-conscious, but when I throw on Can's "Vitamin C" I'm like "Yeah, I'm funky, in my white guy sort of way."
